Job Description
The CNA will work under the direct supervision of the Nurse and provide direct care to identified students.
Expectations of the

CNA:
  • Will report any concerns to the school nurse immediately.
  • Will have lead responsibility for trainings, toileting, transferring of students, feedings and all activities of daily living, with assistance from paraprofessionals/staff in classroom, as necessary.
  • Will utilize the team approach with all staff in the classroom and when working with staff from all specials. (OT, PT, etc.)
  • Will actively learn interventions performed by OT, PT, Speech, Vision Specialist, or any other specialty staff and be able to perform these interventions on days students do not receive these services.
  • Will consult with and assist classroom staff regarding specific recommendations for identified students.
  • Will implement accommodations for students to maximize participation in the least restrictive environment.
  • Will practice appropriate safety techniques and precautions when working with students and follow all care plans and IEP’s in place.
  • Will complete and maintain appropriate documentation for identified students.
  • Will assist in determining and meeting students’ adaptive equipment needs.
  • Will communicate effectively with the school nurse and paraprofessional regarding interventions for identified students.
  • Will maintain confidentiality regarding students and only share information with
    appropriate staff.
  • Will maintain current certification in First Aid, CPR/AED and be trained in Epinephrine administration.
  • Will maintain respect and compassion for each identified student in his/her care.
  • Will have knowledge of the emergency evacuation plan for each identified student and assist in the safe evacuation of these students.
  • Will maintain clinical skills of a Medical Aide/CNA and maintain any certifications.
  • Will attend any trainings necessary to care for the identified students.
Qualifications:

  • Work effectively with staff and students and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computer skills and specific applications for students or willing to be trained to specific skills needed for students to access the curriculum.
  • Work closely with the special education teacher regarding accommodations needed for the students to be successful.
  • Comply with all district guidelines, policies and regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with the school nurse, administration and staff, regarding students’ accomplishments or concerns.
  • Respond to needs related to job responsibilities
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental level of students.
  • Maintain appropriate management of students.
  • Ability to read, write or interpret information.
  • Ability to write basic reports and correspondence relative to the position.
  • Ability to physically respond to the demands of the job.

( lifting, standing, crouching, use of the lift, etc.)
