Major Responsibilities:

1. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, and according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, assists in data collection and care and treatment of patients. 2. Accurately and as directed obtains and records patient data; vital signs, 12 lead EKGs, testing of specimens, patient weights and measurements, Intake and Output. 3. Assists patients with activities of daily living, feeding, personal hygiene, etc. 4. Assists with positioning, turning, and range of motion exercises, with the exception of using lifting equipment to lift patients. 5. Appropriately performs treatments such as application of heat and cold; application of ace bandages, binders, stockings; application of restraints under the direction of a nurse. II.

Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:

1. Current Basic Life Support Certification required within 30 days of hire. 2. Suicide Prevention and De-escalation learning modules, as well as Constant Observer Training must be completed if a PCA I will be working as a Patient Observer in the Medical/Surgical area for Suicide Risk patient. Must be completed during the first 90 days of employment. 3. Completion of applicable coursework in an appropriate High School program

Preferred:

1. Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Experience/Skills:
Required:

Must possess the following skills:

reading, writing and simple mathematical calculations 2. Good interpersonal skills 3. Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups 4. Integrity and flexibility 5. Ability to communicate effectively verbally, if necessary 6. Manual dexterity required to perform tests and to complete treatments 7. Ability to understand and follow through on instructions OR equivalent combination of the above

Preferred:

1. Recent sub-acute or acute care patient care assistant experience Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
