Position Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant II performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Functions within the framework of the NAII listing granted by the NC Board of Nursing. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services. In addition, the Nursing Assistant may be utilized in the Observer Role responsible for monitoring one or more assigned patients on a designated unit for a specified time period. Responsibilities Participates in quality Improvement (QI)

Activities:

Participates in problem solving resolution activities and identifies opportunities for improvement to change behavior. Participates in data collection. Employs safe practices, infection control, and fire and disaster regulations. Participates in cost savings activities.

Education:

Attends and utilizes staff development programs and educational resources to meet unit objectives and/or individual objectives. Fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements. Participates in the orientation of new staff and students, as delegated by the supervising RN.
Follows hospital and unit based policies and procedures: Provides quality patient care. Maintains familiarity with job description and legal implications of role. Maintain active NAI and NAII licensure/certification.

Under the supervision of the licensed nurse, assists in providing direct patient care and completes delegated skills and tasks ascribed by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and North Carolina Board of Nursing.
With appropriate education and training, may perform other duties as assigned (such as: EKGs, Phlebotomy, venipuncture, assisting in admission, transport, and discharge of patient).
Monitors the patient for signs of escalating behaviors. Alerts nurse if the patient exhibits risk of harming himself/herself or others. Maintains level of observation according to the patient’s plan of care and as ordered within medical record. Communicate effectively with the patient’s care team including receiving report and providing meaningful handoff. Documents accurately on established workflows within the medical record. Provides hazard surveillance and reduces risk within the patient’s physical environment. Engages patient appropriately in distraction activities as needed. Minimum Requirements High School or GED is preferred

  • or higher De-escalation training (Non-violent crisis intervention or other de-escalation program adopted by ECU Health).

If not current at the time of hire must complete within 90 days of employment and maintain without lapse during employment. Active NAI listing with NC Department of Health & Human Services is required. Active NAII listing with North Carolina Board of Nursing is required. Current American Heart Association HeartSaver or higher certification is required. Preferred Requirements
