Summary:

The NAI is responsible for administering direct patient care andperforming other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patientcare, under the direction and supervision of a professional nurse.

The NAI performs duties, such as feeding, bathing, dressing,grooming, or moving patients or changing linens.

Responsibilities:

Patients and families are served in providing direct patient careservices. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationshipsin a manner to project a positive image of the department andhospital. Ensures that contacts with other health care members isfriendly helpful and courteous.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school graduate or equivalent.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

None required.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

Certified by the N. C. Department of Facility Services as a

NAI.BCLS

Certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Good interpersonal, communication and observation skills areessential. Understanding of patient care needs according todevelopmental stages for various age groups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and otherinfectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment;exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemicalhazards based on the departments. Possible exposure to conditions,such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poorventilation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Standing, sitting, walking and working throughout the shift.

Lifting, pulling, turning and pushing patients daily. Ability touse appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity,auditory and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods androtating shifts. 01.6200.3402
