17.00 Job Summary The Nursing Assistant Trainee is enrolledin a learning experience designed to develop the confidence andcompetence to serve as a caregiver that provides personal care toclients. Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the trainee, inpartnership with a preceptor, provides holistic client-centeredcare that promotes independence and client rights in a safe,caring, and efficient manner. The trainee is required to workwithin the role of a non-certified nursing assistant. The traineeis enrolled in a formal nursing assistant program and is requiredto fulfill all training requirements in the designated timeframe.

The Trainee is not allowed to perform any service(s) unless theyhave been trained and found to be proficient by the instructor. Theprogram is delivered in hybrid format which includes an onlinecurriculum and hands on skills development. Trainees learn theskills and processes needed to provide care and assistance toclients. At completion of the training program, participants willbe prepared to take state knowledge and skills exams to obtain theCertified Nursing Aide (CNA) or other state certificationdesignation. While in the Nursing Assistant Training Program, thetrainee serves as a member of the nursing team and will be heldaccountable to know and follow location-specific standards forinfection prevention and control, personal protective equipmentuse, safety, and privacy. The trainee demonstrates the ability tofollow written and verbal instructions. This role requires anability to do detailed work correctly, handle stress, demonstratecritical thinking, and prioritize responsibilities. The traineeworks with clients and their families to ensure their physical,cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs are met. Thetrainee delivers age-appropriate care to meet the physical,psychological, and restorative needs of the client as defined inthe care plan. The trainee assists the care team and documentsclient care when appropriate. The trainee communicates changes inclient condition and care-related concerns to a licensed nurse. Thetrainee assists with basic health care needs and activities ofdaily living such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing,undressing, obtaining vital signs, providing psychosocial support,and delivering other personal care as assigned. The trainee assiststhe client in transferring, repositioning, range of motionexercises, and walking using appropriate transfer techniques andequipment. The trainee assists clients with meals and snacks andprovides water and nutritional supplements as appropriate. Thetrainee assists with housekeeping, laundry services, and otherduties as assigned within non-certified nursing assistant role.

Qualifications High school graduate or general equivalency diploma(GED) preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Priorclinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term carepreferred. When applicable, for applicable states, certified andregistered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.

Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role mayclassify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor. Vehiclereport and proof of valid driver’s license. Must be medicallyqualified to perform the essential driving functions of thisposition as per our Sanford Driving Policy per the leaders request.
