Medical Assistant Job Summary:

Performs selected medicalassistant and clerical duties that assist in care for clinicpatients following established standards, practices, andcompetency. Works collaboratively with other clinic staff to solvepractice-related problems. Demonstrates knowledge of the principlesof growth and development and possesses the ability to respond tospecific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer’sstatus. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to providecare for the population served in the department. Must have one ofthe following certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant(CCMA)

  • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Work where you matter. A Brief Overview Provides for the deliveryof professional nursing care under the direction of the provider.

What you will do Performs general nursing care to patients.

Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordancewith nursing standards. Coordinates the patient care activities forthe clinic. Prepares equipment and assists provider duringprocedures, treatments, examinations, and testing of patients.

Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reactions todrugs and treatments to provider. Oversees appointment schedulingand ensures preferences are given to patients in emergencysituations. Maintains timely flow of patients. Greets patients andprepares them for physical examination. Screens patients forappropriate information including obtaining the health history, andtaking vitals. Documents obtained information in patient chart.

Instructs patient in collection of samples and tests. Responds topatient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input fromthe physician. Educates patients and families about diagnosticprocess, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health andwellness. Suggests solutions to patient care crisis problems andcomplaints. Maintains exam rooms with necessary supplies andmaterials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical suppliesneeded. Assures appropriate labeling of pathology specimensaccording to lab protocol as needed. Performs quality control andmaintains records on all lab testing. Essential Qualifications Theindividual must be able to work the hours specified. To performthis job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential job function satisfactorily including having visualacuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability tocommunicate effectively with others, hear, understand anddistinguish speech and other sounds.
