FUNCTIONS

All job functions are to be executed through the lens of high quality customer service. Customers are defined as both internal and external clients. Examples demonstrative of high quality service may include, but are not limited to, the following: prompt responsiveness to inquiries professional and courteous verbal and nonverbal communication proactive problem solving Ensure compliance with procedures, protocols, and other instructions provided by the director of safe and supportive schools and/or the assistant to the superintendent for personnel and student services. Works with and under the direction of the school nurse to implement the School Health Services Program at one or more schools. Maintains health and dental records on each student in the assigned schools. Completes auditory and visual screening tests at the direction of the certified school nurse. Completes growth screenings at the direction of the certified school nurse. Records result of screenings on student’s records; reports failures of screening tests to certified school nurse-, initiates follow-up per protocol, standing order, policies and procedures, at the direction of the certified school nurse. Administers first-aid to students and school personnel according to district policy and procedures. Conducts initial assessment of students on complaints of illness at school (eg. temperature, pulse and respirations), in accordance with school district policy and procedures, and under the direction of the certified school nurse. Dispenses student medications. Completes clerical procedures required by the school health program, as conducted in assigned location(s). Assists with scheduling physical and dental examinations. Assists with the preparation of reports required by the school district or state. Prepares materials for bulletin boards, exhibits and displays as instructed. Assists with immunizations, tuberculosis testing, examinations and other health programs as directed by the school nurse. Assists with the care, storage, inventory, and requisition of equipment and supplies. Maintains a clean, orderly and attractive Health Suite. Performs other related duties as directed by the certified school nurse, Supervisor of Health Services or building administrator. A health care professional, (RN) may function to the fullest extent within the limitations and ranges of professional competencies (after consultation and concurrence of the certified school nurse and School District Administrator). This shall include administration of medication and provision of routine treatments for children with chronic ongoing illnesses and conditions and provision of care for ill or injured children. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Education:

High School Diploma (Bachelor’s Degree Preferred)

Certification:

Pennsylvania registered nursing license,

CPR Experience:

Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment. Knowledge of child growth and development. Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies. Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services. Some knowledge of the school organization and the community served.

Skills:

Effective oral and written communication skills, and effective use of technology required; expertise in working with school-aged children (minimum 3 years of experience) preferred.
