Job Duties Responsible and accountablefor performing a wide range of direct patient care activities andsome clerical duties, depending on the need of the unit. Theperformance of these tasks in an efficient and timely manner isessential to enhance the care team’s ability to provide qualitycare. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in thespecific age range in their assigned clinical area.
- Providespatient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope ofpractice, in meeting the multidisciplinary care plan establishedfor each patient.
- Identifies, observes, and documents thephysical needs of the patient according to established standards.
Reports ant changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in atimely manner.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimensin accordance with policy and procedure, according to physicianorder.
- Provides for or assists patients with activities of dailyliving and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities forongoing continuum of care. Includes patient hygiene and changinglinens.
- Provides one to one patient safety watch as assignedfollowing established policies and procedures.
- Accuratelyprocesses specimens and provides timely transport of the specimento the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing andpoint of care instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Assistsin problem solving, trouble shooting and taking corrective measuresin care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Serves as apreceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positivemanner.
- Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers,discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitatespatient throughput activities. Transcribes and processes ordersaccording to unit standard.
- Releases and confirms ordered teststo appropriate departments.
- Coordinate’s transportation ofpatients to multiple tests.
- Participates in obtaining andcommunicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursingunit. Schedules tests, faxes consults, etc.
- Assists in orderingsupplies. Stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs,individual nursing supplies.
- Communicates with food services toensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operates, problem solves, andtakes corrective measures for clerical equipment. To includescheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Staff have access to non-controlled medications storage and supplyareas and can transport non-controlled medications as necessary tomeet the needs of the clinic or unit.
- Assists with transportingnon-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unitas needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and fromBlood Bank as needed.
