MCCRACKEN MIDDLE POSITION PURPOSE
As a school nurse assistant, you accomplish administrative and simple medical responsibilities under the direction of a licensed school nurse. Keeping records of each student who visits the nurse’s office under the nurse direction. Your main job is assisting the nurse with whatever she needs help with. You must follow their directive.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Send out nurse related emails only as directed. Respond to parent or staff emails only if medical advice is not needed. Forward to nurse if medical advice is requested. You are a member of the Emergency Team – Carry out assigned duties appropriately.
Red folders:
confirmed each student has a Red Folder after downloading a roster from Power School by grade. Red Folders need a valid immunization certificate, hearing and vision screenings forms. Hearing and Vision Screening will be inputted into SNAP following nurse’s directive. Work with the nurse on immunizations and help contact all parents/guardians for updated or incomplete immunization forms. Nurse will print a valid copy of the immunization certificate from SIMON. Nurse Assistant will input immunization record into SNAP with any nursing help and make sure it is compliant. SNAP does that for you. Run the report for Not in Compliance students from SNAP. The nurse will show you how to run the report. Print this and this is the list you will work from on updating any non-compliant students. Run SNAP reports monthly and check for Immunization and Health Card compliancy for new students Keep detailed notes of the date, discussion, dialog with student/parents pertaining to any communication regarding Immunizations. Communicate to Nurse what discussions/ dialog was about and follow nurse directive. If you receive any phone calls or emails pertaining to any medical issues with students or staff, please forward to your nurse, so she can communicate with the parents or staff. Print and file Health Cards according to grade and alphabetically Run a roster from Power School on each grade to check that all students have a health Card and notify parent if none. Update power school with the health alerts from health cards and put allergies into Power School for the Nutrition, the new food vendor. Monitor students who are in the “sick” room. Provide teachers with a supply of band aids, gloves and 4×4’s. Keep medication cups and water cups restocked. Refill feminine products Make sure health clinic is adequately stocked and order supplies with the nurse and confirm the order with your nurse. Go to classrooms for back packs/computers for students being sent home. When walking student out to parents, direct any questions from parents to the nurse so there is no miscommunication. Keep all benches/tables, chairs, faucet handles, door handles, light switches, and flat surfaces disinfected and wiped Administer prescription medication to students under the supervision of nurse. The nurse assistant will not give over the counter medication. The nurse assistant will not assess or diagnose students. The nurse assistant will not chart on students. The burse assistant will only administer medications if the nurse needs assistance.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years general office experience Medical office, pediatric clinic or related health field experience is a plus. Bilingual skills preferred.
EXPERIENCE
: Must have at least two years of related work experience. Must have knowledge in the use of a variety of medical instruments and equipment, such as a blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, otoscope, thermometer, nebulizer, audiometer, glucometer, etc. Should have knowledge of basic computer operations and functions, use of Microsoft Office applications and the Internet, and skill in the use of general office equipment such as printer, calculator, copier, fax, etc.
