LPN Job Summary/Purpose:

Responsible for quality patient care underthe direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in aclinical practice. Duties to include rooming patients, takingvitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medicalrecord, giving injections and assisting with minor procedures.

CMA Minimum Training and Education:

High school diploma orequivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting programwith one year of patient care experience preferred. Basic computerskills required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, eithera certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS forHealthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an AmericanRed Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Annual competencies are required to be maintained. Possess abilityto understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions inthe execution of therapeutic procedures and ability to makeaccurate physical observation of patients. Failure to abide by MUHApolicies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.

Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment in order toexpedite appropriate care and treatment, especially given that thepatient may be present with complex problems or potentially lifethreatening conditions. Uses critical thinking in clinicalproblem-solving relative to the scope of practice, knowledge,competency, and experience. Assists medical staff with preparation,examination, and procedure to include interviewing/screeningpatients to obtain personal data and chief complaint, documentationfor records, and vital signs. Performs telephone and in-personscreenings. Participates in recording and reportingresponsibilities; documents findings relevant to patients healthcare status or plan of care, documents accurately and consistentlyin accordance with approved policies/procedures. Prioritizes anddocuments patient incoming phone calls, as assigned, regardingmedications, medical conditions, and reviews with provider asneeded for orders or changes.
