Under the supervision of a licensednurse, the trainee, in partnership with a preceptor, providesholistic client-centered care that promotes independence and clientrights in a safe, caring, and efficient manner. The trainee isrequired to work within the role of a non-certified nursingassistant. The trainee is enrolled in a formal nursing assistantprogram and is required to fulfill all training requirements in thedesignated timeframe. The Trainee is not allowed to perform anyservice(s) unless they have been trained and found to be proficientby the instructor. The program is delivered in hybrid format whichincludes an online curriculum and hands on skills development.
Trainees learn the skills and processes needed to provide care andassistance to clients. At completion of the training program,participants will be prepared to take state knowledge and skillsexams to obtain the Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) or other statecertification designation. While in the Nursing Assistant TrainingProgram, the trainee serves as a member of the nursing team andwill be held accountable to know and follow location-specificstandards for infection prevention and control, personal protectiveequipment use, safety, and privacy. The trainee demonstrates theability to follow written and verbal instructions. This rolerequires an ability to do detailed work correctly, handle stress,demonstrate critical thinking, and prioritize responsibilities. Thetrainee works with clients and their families to ensure theirphysical, cognitive, spiritual, emotional, and social needs aremet. The trainee delivers age-appropriate care to meet thephysical, psychological, and restorative needs of the client asdefined in the care plan. The trainee assists the care team anddocuments client care when appropriate. The trainee communicateschanges in client condition and care-related concerns to a licensednurse. The trainee assists with basic health care needs andactivities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, grooming,dressing, undressing, obtaining vital signs, providing psychosocialsupport, and delivering other personal care as assigned. Thetrainee assists the client in transferring, repositioning, range ofmotion exercises, and walking using appropriate transfer techniquesand equipment. The trainee assists clients with meals and snacksand provides water and nutritional supplements as appropriate. Thetrainee assists with housekeeping, laundry services, and otherduties as assigned within non-certified nursing assistant role.
Qualifications High school graduate or general equivalency diploma(GED) preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Priorclinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term carepreferred. When applicable, for applicable states, certified andregistered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role mayclassify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor. Vehiclereport and proof of valid driver’s license. Must be medicallyqualified to perform the essential driving functions of thisposition as per our Sanford Driving Policy per the leaders request.
