Job Summary:
The CNA needs to be proficient in speaking English in order to accurately and effectively communicate with patients and/or residents. Patients include those from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, socio-economic standing, education, etc. Depending on the unit in which they are working, they may be required to learn specific skills necessary to provide the best care to patients and/or residents. There are two levels in the CNA job class, both requires a current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Assistance License. New hires are placed at the level the incumbent meets minimum qualifications for. CNA I – Under direct supervision of a licensed RN, the CNAs will provide basic nursing care to patients and/or residents in accordance with the patient’s and/or resident’s assessment and treatment plan. In addition, they will support and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and/or residents. Incumbents will be assigned a specific home unit but may be floated to other areas for additional support when needed. CNA II – Under direct supervision of a licensed RN, the CNAs will provide basic nursing care to patients and/or residents. In addition, they will support and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients and/or residents. Incumbents will be assigned a specific home unit but may be floated to other areas for additional support when needed. Incumbents have the ability to train CNA I positions as well as perform the full scope of duties for a CNA I or II at BRH. Journey skills include, but are not limited to: Completing non-invasive collection and testing of physical specimens (gastroccult, hemoccult, urine dip sticks), glucose testing and reporting, suctioning the oral pharynx, removal of internal or external urinary catheters, peri-care, bladder scans, electrode placements for electrocardiograms, cardiac monitoring, telemetry, Incentive Spirometer use, etc. Minimum Qualifications for the

Experience:
No prior experience required. CNA I’s are required to complete initial advanced skills training checklists and advance to CNA II level within 6 months.
License(s): Current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Assistant License.
Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS), Alaska Food Workers Card (Wildflower Court only), Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) & Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) training within 90 days of hire.
Other:
Must be 18 years of age to work in Wildflower Court, must be 16 years of age to work in Bartlett Hospital CNA II –
Experience:
Master entry level CNA I skills and duties and complete initial advanced skills training checklist within 6 months of hire. CNA II must maintain quarterly skills training checklists and competencies.
License(s): Current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Assistant License.

Bartlett Hospital Internal Hires:
Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
External Hires:
CNA I starts at $21.74 hourly. CNA II starts at $25.52 hourly. Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
