DESCRIPTION

Description Instructors are responsible for providing quality, engaging, and college-level instruction in their specific field/discipline. Instruction will focus on student success and retention using various teaching strategies and delivery methods.

Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching:

Collaborate with faculty to prepare & teach departmental courses to include:

  • developing learner-centered lesson plans
  • employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles
  • incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in the classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments
  • creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
  • preparing, distributing, and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate
  • updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency
  • developing new courses as needed to support the instructional mission
  • participating in the development and review of course and program/general education outcomes as appropriate
  • developing, conducting, and documenting appropriate assessment of student learning in outcomes courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development:

Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:

  • participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
  • participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
Administration:

Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records including:

  • maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
  • providing for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
  • maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) per established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, AVISO, Moodle)
  • complying with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations
Student Support:

Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:

  • participating in recruiting activities
  • promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
  • referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or

EXPERIENCE

A minimum degree is required for an academic subject area based on SACSCOC faculty criteria. Hold an active unencumbered license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina. Hold either a baccalaureate in nursing or a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited institution; a Graduate degree in nursing is preferred.
Have two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
Meet all faculty requirements defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing Administrative Code Rules, related to education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, within the first three years of employment. Bladen Community College is committed to the professional development and advancement of our team. LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to speak Spanish is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video displays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
