$47.8K – $58.9K a year 13 hours ago Benefits On-the-job training Qualifications CPR Certification Mid-level Microsoft Office Continuous improvement 4 years Associate’s degree Teaching Full Job Description The BLET Qualified assistant assists the certified School Director during the planning, development, and implementation of an accredited basic recruit training course, a Qualified Assistant shall be designated to assist the School Director in the administration of the course. Typical duties and responsibilities will include: Review each instructor’s lesson plans and other instructional materials for conformance to Commission standards and to minimize repetition and duplication of subject matter. Assist with course delivery in accordance with Commission procedures and standards, with consideration to advisory guidelines issued by the Commission, and ensure that the training offered is safe and effective. Assist with and recommend instructors who are certified by the Commission to instruct Basic Law Enforcement Training Topics. Complete required evaluations of instructional staff per North Carolina Administrative Code. Provide each instructor with a current commission-approved course outline and all necessary handouts and audio-visual materials. Provide clear and concise directions to instructors relating to their duties and responsibilities. Arrange for the timely availability of appropriate audiovisual aids and materials, publications, facilities, and equipment for training in all topic areas. Maintain accurate and precise records in accordance with NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Attend or must have attended the most current offering of the Qualified Assistant orientation as developed and presented by the Commission staff. Maintain all assigned BLET vehicles. Schedule service, inspections and keep detailed records in accordance with State Law and NC CJ Standards regulations. Assist with administration of both Curriculum and Continuing Education Basic Law Enforcement programs conducted by the college. Minimum Qualifications Current North Carolina law enforcement certification. Minimum of four years’ experience as a criminal justice officer. NC Criminal Justice General Instructor certification. Current North Carolina Department of Justice Qualified Assistant Certification, or ability to obtain within six months of the date of employment. Completion of the North Carolina Department of Justice Qualified Assistant Level Set training, ability to complete within six months of the date of employment. Current CPR Certification. Successful teaching or training experience. Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace, spreadsheets, presentation and collaboration apps and Software. Ability to work in a diverse environment. Ability to teach in a variety of modalities to include online and in person classes. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or higher in related field.
Note:
degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as
SACSCOC. NC
Criminal Justice Specialized Instructor certification.
Essential Duties Teaching and Learning:
Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by Program Coordinator/ BLET School Director. Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful. Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards and NC Justice Academy standards. Advise and mentor students towards program completion. Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor, scheduling clinical opportunities for students as applicable. Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance and grade reports as directed by the program coordinator. Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course. Assist other PST courses as a backup and through class visits. Assist with all BLET accreditation compliance processes.
Community Relations:
Maintain contact and open communication with community partner agencies Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the college and the department. Assist in planning and conducting advisory committee meetings. Provide administration with information for institutional publications.
Curriculum Development:
Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study, as necessary. Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise. Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise. Incorporate inclusive content and work to eliminate discriminatory and exclusionary content from curriculum Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes. Develop and maintain a comprehensive pre and post test file for use in the BLET curriculum.
Professional Development:
Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the department Associate Dean and participates in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities. Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position. Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations. Read professional literature. Keep abreast of current technology. Attend workshops, conferences, and professional meetings. Participate in on-campus professional development activities.
Personnel:
Assist with BLET Instructor selection. Orientation for new instructors to job responsibilities and to the College’s operations and policies. Assist with BLET instructor evaluation through classroom visitation.
Finance, Facilities and Equipment :
Maintain an equipment inventory. Maintain equipment and facilities according to acceptable standards. Recommend replacement equipment and supplies as needed. Assure the availability to program faculty of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials.
Program Development :
Prepare materials for recommended curriculum changes. Assist with the preparation of annual curriculum course schedules. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the Public Safety Technologies Division.
