JOB SUMMARY

The Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Clinical Nursing Director to lead and manage nursing operations across various clinical settings, including Ambulatory and Urgent Care Centers. This role involves the oversight and coordination of multiple specialized clinic services such as Adult and Child Health, Family Planning, and Disease Control. The Clinical Nursing Director will be responsible for strategic planning, resource management, and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care by a team of skilled and dedicated healthcare professionals. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with clinical standards, supervising staff performance, optimizing scheduling, and conducting evaluations to maintain operational excellence. This leadership role requires significant initiative, sound independent judgment, and a broad understanding of healthcare regulations and organizational policies. Ongoing communication with staff and continuous monitoring of patient care services are essential components of the position, with an emphasis on exceeding quality benchmarks and improving health outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

Option A:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Supervisory experience to include conducting formal performance appraisals, reviewing, and delegating work.

Option B:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama Associate’s in Nursing Supervisory experience to include conducting formal performance appraisals, reviewing, and delegating work Experience managing a budget (i.e., evaluating revenue and expenditures) Experience collecting clinical and evaluative/analytic data (e.g., productivity).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the Health Department. These qualifications may be considered by the Health Department when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes. Advanced Life Support Certification. Experience working in ambulatory care. Experience managing specialty healthcare (e.g., cardiology, oncology, urgent care).

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES

Ensures quality care of patients by acting as a patient advocate (e.g., explaining procedures/treatments and risks/benefits, ensuring patient understanding and consent) and receiving and responding to patient and/or staff complaints. Attends meetings, workshops, conferences, or courses; includes collaborating with other departments or groups. Performs financial functions such as budgeting, billing, insurance processing, and grant writing in order to obtain or account for funding. Directly supervises the work of staff; includes coordinating staff schedules, assigning and monitoring work, training, evaluating, motivating, and providing feedback. Oversees the work of departments, units or teams; includes establishing and monitoring departmental goals, policies and procedures and hiring and interviewing candidates.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Job may require working overtime, and may occasionally require working with angry/irate customers or citizens.
