To attain goals, set objectives and ensure plans andpolicies are implemented for established ambulatory area(s) ofresponsibility with scope score range of less than 2 as defined inthe UAB Medicine Nurse Manager Recruitment and Retention Plan. Toensure that the services provided are delivered within establishedquality and financial standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities1.
Supervises clinical and clerical personnel:
interviews, hires,schedules, evaluates performance, coaches staff to improveperformance. Updates clinic specific policies and proceduresaccording to The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and ensuresemployee awareness. Submits all HR reports in a timely manner.
Reviews employee job descriptions and competencies; updates asneeded. Ensures staff meets and maintains yearly competencies.
Conducts staff meetings at a minimum of one per month; documentsattendance. Implements changes requested by physician leadershipand administration in a timely manner.2.
Monitors customersatisfaction:
complaints are addressed and appropriatelydocumented. Reviews press Ganey documents for any trends,developing action plans with physician and leadership involvementand implementation with staff. Builds, develops and maintains openrelationship between department and clinic personnel. Monitorsindicator trends and acts appropriately to resolve any issues.3.
Evaluates and improves clinic flow:
assigns staff to enhancepatient flow. Problems are addressed and solutions implemented.
Environment kept safe per standards. Manages time efficiently andeffectively. Supplies are available in appropriate quantity reviewspar levels as needed at least every 6 months. Works with otherclinics to ensure patient flow and care is optimal. Maintains andensures patient triage and/ or intake areas meet patient standardsand workflow needs.4.
Assures clinics fiscal responsibilities aremet:
meets deadline set for budget submission. Monitors compliancewith budget and acts on variance. Implements cost-reductionstrategies for clinic. Assures medical leadership,administration/clinic director are aware of changes that willaffect budget. Reviews trends related to staffing and acts on themappropriately. Monitors charge ticket entry and completion.
Co-pays, pre-certs, referrals are maintained at least 95%. Assuresall MSO policies and procedures are followed.5.
Communicates withstaff/physicians:
meets with clinic medical director to addressclinic issues. Schedules and directs staff meetings to relayimportant information and changes between physicians, UAHSF,administration, and clinical staff at a minimum of one per month.Documents meeting minutes and staff attendance. Completesdocumentation as communication for staff as needed. Completesweekly / biweekly huddle for communication.6.
Ensures performanceis improved in clinic:
revision of PI plan as appropriate. Reviewsbenchmark performance both internally and externally and implementchanges to impact patient care. Assists in clinical areas asneeded. Completes tracers in assigned clinics as required.
Completes and reviews 90 day plans as appropriate. Ensures medicalrecord reviews/CQI tracking is complete. Accountable for developingand implementing a plan for achieving clinic dashboard goals andmonitors monthly results. Discusses plans and opportunities withmedical leadership and administration. Acts as liaison betweenstaff and leadership.7. Ensures educational activities of clinicare conducted: fulfillment of responsibilities of appointment tocommittees, teams, etc. Ensures staff are cross-trained andoriented as appropriate. Ensures competencies and job descriptionsare reviewed and updated as appropriate. Ensures appropriate newemployees are trained and meet all required competences.8. Ensuresthat the requirements for accreditation and other regulatoryagencies are met including, but not limited to, The JointCommission (TJC) and state regulations. Adheres to safetyregulations and continuous quality improvement/analysis reviews.
Educates and ensures compliance with policies and proceduresregarding departmental operations, including all regulatoryagencies.9. Performs other duties as assigned.
PositionRequirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Nursingand five (5) years of related experience, two (2) years of whichare nursing leadership, required. Work experience may notsubstitute for education requirement.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/ORREGISTRATION
Current Alabama RN license required. CurrentCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or mustbe obtained within thirty (30) days of employment. ACLS and/or PALScertification may be required based upon clinic need. If required,must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
