General Responsibilities The System Chief Nursing Executive (SCNE) sets the vision and strategy for clinical care services and provides leadership to ensure standardization of clinical work processes, assigns responsibility to individuals or groups of nursing staff members to act on improving patient outcomes, and collaborates with leadership in designing, providing, and evaluating patient care and services to ensure continuous improvement of clinical care and services across all facilities. The SCNE collaborates with cross functional teams and leadership to ensure appropriate exchange of patient care data and information and exercises final approval and authority over all nursing system policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care. Key Duties & Responsibilities 1. In collaboration with executive leadership, sets the vision and strategy for clinical care services and outcomes for the system; develops and executes a long-range strategic plan for system nursing that lowers cost and improves quality. 2. Serves as the dyad partner to the senior leadership with shared accountability for system-level patient care services and participates actively with the executive leadership team to achieve system goals. 3. Ensures continuous improvement of clinical care and services across all organizational facilities, including minimizing waste through the lean process and implementing other process re-design efforts. 4. Provides leadership to ensure standardization of clinical work processes through collaboration of all disciplines. 5. Partners with senior quality leadership to ensure quality of care and patient engagement measured by system performance reviews, accreditation, regulatory compliance, and patient advocacy scores. 6. Provides leadership and consultation to various business divisions interfacing with nursing and patient care services and interfaces with Allied Health programs, advanced practice providers (APPs), and academic and research divisions. 7. Partners with information services, the Accountable Care Organization, and organizational leadership to ensure appropriate exchange of patient care data and information. 8. Represents the system mission and vision as well as the objectives of each area of responsibility and coordinate with leaders across the organization and other interdisciplinary groups in policy formation and practice change process. 9. Implements the findings of current research from nursing and other literature into the policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care. 10. Exercises final approval and authority over all nursing system policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care. 11. Ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing and clinical services to patients at all sites using nursing standards of patient care and nursing that align with current research findings and nationally recognized professional standards. 12. Collaborates with leaders in designing, providing, and evaluating patient care and services to ensure enough appropriately qualified health care staff members to provide care. 13. Supports an engaged workforce through nursing development and collaborative employee relationships and overseeing research, education, and training to support innovative patient care and services. 14. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) with preference for a DNP or PhD prepared candidate with the requisite credentials for an appointment with the School of Nursing is required. Ten (10) years of progressive experience in successfully managing complex hospital and patient care delivery, with a minimum of five (5) years at the CNO level, is required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Demonstrated track record of consistent nursing practice using contemporary research and practice based on solid, validated evidence as well as success in leading an organization to consistent financial and operational achievement. Experience implementing innovative workforce recruitment and retention strategies. Experience in organizations where continuous improvement has been ingrained in the culture.

Licenses / Certifications

/ Registrations Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
