JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Nursing manager is a Registered Nurse(RN) who has responsibility for the supervision of patient care,clinical personnel, and unit operations. This position supervises awork group to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective patientand family centered care is provided in support of the hospital’sstrategic plan, and the function’s goals and objectives. Thisposition works collaboratively with functional leadership and isresponsible for the oversight of daily operations of the assigneddepartment including off shift and weekend supervision of nursingand non-licensed staff. This position manages resources, qualityimprovement, payroll, creating and maintaining colleague schedulesand monitors patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinicaloperations. In addition, this position is responsible for a safeand therapeutic unit environment, which includes working in thedepartment as staff RN to assist as needed. This position supportsleadership in ensuring standards of excellence and professionaldevelopment are fostered and met. This position also participatesin and may lead Performance Improvement work in their assigneddepartment. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Master’s Degree preferred. Two (2) years of experience as RN inProgressive Care or Critical Care unit required, one yearsupervisory experience preferred.
Licensure, Certification,Registration:
Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license BasicLife Support (BLS) certification Ability to obtain and maintainAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced LifeSupport (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire. Must be ableto pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire. Must be ableto pass the BKAT with a score of 80% or complete a critical carecourse within one (1) year of hire. Ability to obtain and maintaindepartment specific certifications. Progressive Care CertifiedNurse (PCCN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred.

- Considerable knowledge of requirementsby federal, state or regulatory bodies.

- Excellent communication skills,both verbal and written.

- Knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of high reliability organizations (HRO) and LEAN processimprovement strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and acommitment to lifelong learning as a methodology for promotingcontinuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care andservices.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritizework in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to workindependently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrates effective leadership through collaborativepartnerships in accordance with Nursing Professional Practicemodel.
- Strong ability to problem solve and make decisions in afast-paced environment and in emergency situations.
