The position is training with our existing management to be a direct supervisor of a crew of 5-10 employees. Must be able to do physical work, prioritize and assign tasks, and solve problems quickly and effectively in a fast paced environment. Fluency in Spanish is helpful. The ideal candidate should be passionate about growing plants, have excellent people and management skills, and have a greenhouse or nursery background in produce, flowers or ornamental plants. We have a great team and we would love to hear from qualified candidates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate plant production and maintenance needs
- Monitor water, fertilizer, and weed control needs of assigned nursery or section
- Work directly with management and sales team to meet necessary production/sale schedules
- Drive and operate all production related equipment.
- Supervise a crew of employees to fulfill the necessary daily tasks related to crop production
- Train, assist, and evaluate employees that report to you
- Maintain accurate inventory for assigned nursery or section.
- Record and report daily production numbers and goals.
- Participate and oversee order fulfillment processes including: order pulling, obtaining necessary paperwork, grading, order checking, and tagging. All while following required protocols
- Manage and prioritize the daily and weekly tasks for yourself and your crew
- Maintain and enforce training policies for employees that report to you
Experience Qualifications:
All of the following are preferred (A minimum of one is required) 1) Degree or certificate of completion in Agriculture/Plant science or related field of study from a college or vocational school 2) Prior work experience in the Horticulture field for at least 6 months. 3) Prior supervisory experience of at least 6 months
Requirements and Expectations:
- Demonstrates from previous work experience clear communications skills, ability to multi-task, self-motivation, professionalism, organization, problem-solving skills, ability to lead by example, ability to work well with a team of diverse skill levels
- Meet, at minimum, the following general labor requirements: perform repetitive and physical tasks, bending for extended periods, lifting and carrying multiple potted plants of various sizes, & working in all weather conditions.
- Able to read, write, and speak in English and bilingual in Spanish or ability to learn and comprehend basic Spanish within the first year of employment
- Required to work any extra hours, weekends, and/or holidays to complete essential tasks
- Maintain and enforce training policies for employees that report to you
- Learn and stay up to date on the crops we grow
- Be proactive about potential issues involving equipment, crops, and personnel before it becomes a costly issue
- Keep up with industry changes in areas such as education, technology, and new product lines
