JOB DESCRIPTION

Monitorsinpatient and/or outpatient level of care services related tomental health and substance abuse treatment to ensure medicalnecessity and effectiveness. Provides telephone triage, crisisintervention and emergency authorizations as assigned. Performsconcurrent reviews for inpatient and/or outpatient care and otherlevels of care as allowed by scope of practice and experience. Inconjunction with providers and facilities, develops discharge plansand oversee their implementation. Performs quality clinical reviewswhile educating and making appropriate interventions to advance thecare of the member in treatment. Provides information to membersand providers regarding mental health and substance abuse benefits,community treatment resources, mental health managed care programs,and company policies and procedures, and criteria. Interacts withPhysician Advisors to discuss clinical and authorization questionsand concerns regarding specific cases. Participates in qualityimprovement activities, including data collection, tracking, andanalysis. Maintains an active work load in accordance with NationalCare Manager performance standards. Works with community agenciesas appropriate. Proposes alternative plans of treatment whenrequests for services do not meet medical necessity criteria.

Participates in network development including identification andrecruitment of quality providers as needed. Advocates for thepatient to ensure treatment needs are met. Interacts with providersin a professional, respectful manner that facilitates the treatmentprocess. Licensure is required for this position, specifically acurrent license that meets State, Commonwealth or customer-specificrequirements.
