Full Job Description Unit Manager Job Purpose:
To supervise day-to-day nursing functions of an assigned area to include functioning as a Charge Nurse in providing nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with the standards of nursing practices and regulations, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing. Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise other professional and non-professional staff in the day-to-day delivery of Resident Care Schedule job assignments and develop Nursing Unit priorities. May orientate new staff, and participate in recruitment and selection of nursing staff, communicate policies, assist and coach as needed. Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance and redirect and discipline as needed.
Unit Manager Nursing Care Function:
Prepare and review medical records and nurse’s notes, and assess residents to observe and evaluate their physical and emotional status. Monitor resident activity, evaluate nursing care in accordance with professional standards, and provide nursing care according to physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents. Transcribe physician’s telephone orders. Communicate with Residents’ family members, other interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.
Drug Administration & Documentation Functions:
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician; in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies. Sign, date and perform all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Resident Rights:
Ensure understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding Residents’ rights.

Care Plans:
Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written care plan for individual residents that addresses the needs of the resident.
Staff Development:
Participate in in-service training, assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training, maintains professional competence.
Safety and Sanitation:
Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance of established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and ensure all other departmental policies and procedures are followed; and to ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas
Other Duties:
Other duties as assigned Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical device): Works in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment.. Works in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in handwashing practices and Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated. Is subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to communicate with residents and employees, ability to understand and follow training, ability to instruct staff in service education, and the ability to remain calm under stress.
Qualifications:
Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State. Must be CPR Certified. Completion of secondary education or otherwise able to read and write in legible and understandable manner. Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and work cooperatively with other associates. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance. Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Experience as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
