Delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting topatients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. Connectwith clinical education to ensure unit meets skill competency andreceived professional development to ensure high quality care.

Performs the primary functions of a Registered Nurse within a unit,inclusive of assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, andevaluating the care of all assigned patients. Works withprofessionals who provide services with the intention of buildingcapacity and maintaining quality of services.

Job Responsibilitiesand Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaches in assigned areain a collaborative model of observation, demonstration, andreflection to promote quality support and service through trainingand in-field mentoring. Facilitates professional collaborativegroups among professionals both locally and with communities ofpractice with a focus on capacity building. Provides direct on-siteobservation, evaluation, individual and/or group consultation anddocument review. Participates in multidisciplinary assessments andmay participate in internal and external quality assuranceactivities. Works as a liaison to the clinical education departmenton behalf of surgical and/or procedural services. Supports thedepartment with skills competency of team members and professionaldevelopment. May perform scrub functions including the selectionand handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure andpreparing operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipmentfor use. May perform circulating functions including monitoring,recording, and communicating patient condition and managing overallnursing care of patient before, during and after procedure. Appliesthe existing body of evidence-based practice and scientificknowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursingcare is delivered based on patient’s age-specific needs andclinical needs as described in the department’s scope of service.

As an SSM Health nurse, I will demonstrate the professional nursingstandards defined in the professional practice model. Uses the ANACode of Ethics for Nurses to guide his/her response to the currentand evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and ourpatient populations. Works in a constant state of alertness andsafe manner. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Graduateof accredited school of nursing or education equivalency forlicensing

EXPERIENCE

Three years’ experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Constant use of speech to share information through oralcommunication. Constant standing and walking. Frequentlifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry. Frequentuse of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches orless) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguishcolors. Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Frequentuse of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish bodysounds and/or hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing25-50 lbs. Occasional lifting/moving of patients. Occasionalbending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping andrepetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional driving.

Rare crawling and running.
