Nurse Manager – Medical Clinic and Nursing Services South Mississippi Mental Health Center Pascagoula, MS 39567 Nurse Manager Job Description Overview Oversees the daily operations of the Med Clinic/Nursing Services, providing clinical leadership and supervision to nursing staff while ensuring high-quality care for mental health clients. This position coordinates with psychiatrists to support medication prescribing and monitoring services and supervises the CSU, ICORT, and Float RN positions. Duties Supervises and coordinates the clinical activities of nursing personnel to ensure appropriate medication management for clients. Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies. Ensures nursing assessments comply with DMH standards and the Mississippi Nursing Practice Acts. Coordinates medication clinic schedules with psychiatrists and nursing staff. Monitors medication effectiveness, side effects, and client responses across the medication program. Develops and implements nursing care plans for psychiatric clients. Provides medication injections to clients directly or assigns this responsibility to other RNs on the team as needed. Supervises the administration of medications and injections according to physician orders. Establishes and maintains quality control procedures for medication storage, handling, and administration. Provides clinical supervision and performance evaluations for nursing staff. Coordinates training and professional development for medication clinic nursing staff. Ensures proper documentation in electronic health records. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and case staffing. Serves as liaison between nursing staff and psychiatrists to address medication-related issues. Develops and maintains nursing policies and procedures for the medication clinic. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Monitors inventory of medical supplies and medications. Addresses client concerns regarding medication management. Identifies opportunities for service improvement and implements appropriate measures. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong leadership and supervisory skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications, indications, and side effects. Proficiency in electronic health record documentation. Knowledge of quality assurance and performance improvement methods. Ability to coordinate multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Current knowledge of evidence-based practices in psychiatric nursing. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Current CPR certification. Completion of CPI within the first 30 days of employment. Knowledge of DMH standards and requirements. Education and Qualification Requirements Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state of Mississippi. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Working knowledge of the DSM-5. Experience with medication management for psychiatric disorders.
