This position will manage the pediatric EDextension unit, Duke Autism Clinic, Duke Children’s EvaluationCenter and Duke Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic.•The DukeChildren’s Evaluation Center (DCEC) includes experts in pediatriccare, including psychiatrists and social workers. We offer afamily-centered environment for all patients and their loved onesso we can provide timely care for pediatric behavioral health needsand act as a starting point for any long-term needs for children.

The Duke Autism Clinic provides comprehensive assessment,diagnosis, treatment, ongoing behavioral and medicationconsultation for children and adolescents with autism spectrumdisorder. The Duke Pediatric Neuropsychology Clinic offerevaluation of cognitive function after they’ve experienced braininjury, chronic disease, or other factors that put them at risk forcognitive problems. Evaluations are created to be enjoyable andinclude talking with the child, solving puzzles, constructing withbuilding blocks, and memory tasks. There are no clinical procedureslike taking vitals or drawing blood. The ED extension unit forpediatric patients awaiting placement. Current capacity of 10 beds.

Schedule:

Monday•Friday, Day Shift•-What you will do:

Manage and supervisefunctions of assigned patient care area on a 24 hour basis; ensureeffective delivery of clinical patient care and compliance withadministrative and clinical policies and procedures. Participate in the development of theclinical areas’ strategic and operational plansActively support andpromote a professional practice model that encourages staffparticipation in the development of clinical standards that iscollaborative, collegial and utilizes current trends and data inprofessional practice (clinical and administrative). Openly supportand consistently communicate mission of the unit/department and theorganization. Serve as the collective voice for unit(s) staff tocommunicate with administration. Serve as the staff and patientadvocate to ensure optimal patient care.

Interface with patients andfamilies to ensure that care is consistent with their expectations.

Ensure active use of the nursing process for patients frompre-admission/admission to discharge and beyond (based on theclinical setting). Serve as a professional role model and mentor tostaff by responding positively to change while supportingcolleagues through the change process. Serve as a change agent tofacilitate communication and transition that supports the missionof the organization.

Ensure a unit-based work force that is diverseand cognizant of the value diversity brings to the workplace.

Assurecoordination/participation of unit based staff on department andorganization wide councils/committees. Manage, supervise andcoordinate delivery of patient care for assigned patient care areaon a 24 hour basis. Ensure compliance with clinical patient carestandards and established policies and procedures.

Maintain clinicalcompetencies for assigned clinical area and provides bedside careas needed. Assess/coach and evaluate staff level of practice.

Develop programs that foster continued clinical development fromnovice to expert to positively impact on patient care and careersatisfaction of staff.

Maintain required unit records, reports andstatistics for administrative purposes, ensures compliance withestablished hospital policies, procedures, objectives, qualitycontrol (POCT); PI, safety, environmental and infection control.

Communicate requirements to staff, and hold staff accountable toestablished requirements. Coordinate the development,implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures designedto improve operational efficiency. Coordinate QC/PI activities withappropriate staff.

Oversee various personnel actions including, butnot limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinaryactions, terminations and other related activities.

Plan, scheduleand organize work for group ensuring proper distribution anddelegation of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel,space and facilities; overall accountability for the requisition,care and maintenance of unit inventory, equipment andsupplies.

Coordinate the activities of nursing staff with otherhospital personnel; accountable for the effective and efficientoperation of the unit and staff including ensuring that orders,treatments, plans of care, clinical pathways are being carried outin a manner supportive of patient care and recovery. Ensuredocumentation of patient care is complete and accurate inaccordance with hospital and unit policies andprocedures.

Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Operations todetermine fiscal requirements of assigned unit(s), and preparebudgetary recommendations. Monitor the level of resources utilizedin service delivery and determines the appropriateness of resourceconsumption in the service. Develop action plans in conjunctionwith the Director of Clinical Operations to ensure budget andresource efficiency, and satisfaction with patient caredelivery.

Perform other related duties incidental to the workdescribed herein.

Round on units twice per shift to include statsheeting with Charge RN. Review units’ Zero Harm profiles andsupport Charge RN to resolve. Review units’ priority discharges;ensure teed up for discharge; escalate barriers via CareHubexpeditor.

Assist with bedflow management.

Assist with escalations(EVS, Supply Chain, DP/DVs, etc.) during off hours. Update Tier 2board.

Provide education and in-services for rollouts, productchanges, new policies/processes, etc.

Attend Tier 1 huddles on arotating basisMonitor unit process metrics and update docs on AreaImprovement CenterAssist with onboarding (creating orientationschedules, rounding on preceptors/orientees, etc.)OnboardstaffSupport corrective action and employee performancemanagementParticipates in RRTs, BRTs, Codes, Fall huddles, VOVhuddles, etcProvide direct patient care to facilitate patient flowwhen MSCC is at Capacity Level 3•What you will need:

Education Bachelor’s degree in Nursing isrequired. Master’s degree in Nursing strongly preferred•Experience Three years of nursing experience isrequired.•Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification Must have current or compact RNlicensure in the state of North Carolina.

BCLS certificationrequired.

Nurses hired into leadership positions must obtain anursing leadership certification within one year of hire.
