Cobb HospitalOverviewThe nurse manager is a registeredprofessional nurse who provides leadership and management of aspecific unit(s) or service through the effective use of knowledgeand skills to promote the creation of a center of excellence forstaff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes.

The nurse manager is the standard bearer on his/her unit and holdsall participants on his/her unit accountable for the delivery ofcare and services through effective communication; observation; andthe management and measurement of specific interventions/practicesand their associated outcomes. Responsibilities include clinical,financial, human and material resources deployment and associatedoutcomes or goals.

The Nurse Manager serves as a chief retention andsafety officer and ensures that safety and quality standards areupheld or met by effective use of data and technology to makedecisions and proactively mitigates unnecessary risks for his/herarea of responsibility. The Nurse Manager creates and ensures adesirable, safe work environment that enables the organization tomeet or exceed its mission and goals. He/she models the way tofoster communication and collaboration with physicians, staff,patients and other departments. Role specific competencies,responsibilities, roles and functions are based on the ProfessionalPractice Model, 5-Star Nursing.

It is expected that all RN ClinicalNurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice ofnursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Actand implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standardsput forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of thepatient services team, it is expected the individual upholds thevoice of the patient, system policies and procedures whilesupporting service excellence goals..

ResponsibilitiesCoreResponsibilites and Essential Functions Resources and Support :
  • Engages staff in decision making viashared governance processes and partners with others to promoterelationship-based care delivery systems that support patientcentered care and service excellence while effectively providingleadership and management for a specific business/clinical unit(s).Possesses and uses good negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Servesas the unit/program’s chief retention and safety officer to managetalent and protect/carefully deploy human and material resourcesthrough effective use knowledge.
  • Analyzes and manages financialresources; uses lean and other quality skills to reduce waste andimprove performance of operations and clinical systems of care;integrates marketing and communication strategies to advance one’sservice line and organization as a whole Interdisciplinary Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Effectivelycommunicates to diverse audiences on nursing, health care andorganizational issues which includes the ability to set standardsand hold leaders and staff accountable for performance standards.

Proactively establishes a healthy work place by reducing orresolving unnecessary conflict (when necessary, partnering withHuman Resources), and promotes achievement of positive teamdynamics

  • Establishes partnerships by employing strong relationshipbuilding skills with staff, departments and medical staff bystriving to understand others (and situations) and keeping the longview in mind

  • QualificationsRequired Minimum Education
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from accredited nursingschool Required and Master’s Degree in Nursing Preferred and If bachelor degree is not in nursing, MSN must be fromaccredited nursing school. Preferred Required Minimum Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in nursing managementRequired Required Minimum Skills
  • Should possess excellent verbal and written communicationskills and relationship building; a knowledge of the health careenvironment; leadership that includes such skills as successfullyimplementing and managing a change process
  • ability to use systemsthinking
  • and inspire, coach others to be successful; model the wayfor professional practice; professionalism andteamwork/collaboration for self/department/medical staff; andpossess necessary business skills to manage human and materialresources.

Must be a continuous learner who understands health carefinancing; strategy and operations for running a business unit(s);and effectively employ data and technology to support workprocesses and make decisions. Supports shared governance or shared decision making; managethe design and delivery of care that in based on evidence andfocused on quality and safety. Knowledge of risk management and variousaccreditation/regulations/licensing requirements assuring thatthese are upheld while advancing industry standards through theachievement of goals by effective management and measurement ofoutcomes.   • Multi-state Compact 1.00 Required 1.00 Basic Life Support 2.00 Required 2.00 BLS
  • Instructor Required BLS
  • Provisional Required Additional Licenses and Certifications
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State ofGeorgia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Georgiaunder the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Requiredand Must have a current BLS card from the American HeartAssociation on the first day of employment in position.
