The Nursing Supervisor

  • RN supervises nursingstaff and oversees admissions on an assigned shift in accordancewith company standards and federal, state, and local standards,guidelines, and regulations to ensure that the highest degree ofquality care is maintained at all times.

Essential Activities AndTasksOperations Management

  • 50% Confirms staffing at the beginning of the shift.

Completes a focused mid-shift round checking in with ChargeNurses and following up on unresolved issues, etc. Remains visible to families acting as a point person andaddresses family when they are present. Confirms results of lab reports have been received and sendsthem to the physician. Maintains availability for Nurse Wound Consultant rounds. Remains active on the floor during resident/patient meal timesto assist with feeding, serving, etc. Maintains availability during breaks and lunches to fill in forstaff as needed. Coordinates resident and patient care with other departments,including Culinary, Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Therapy,Activities and Social Services, to ensure the continuity ofcare. Fills in as a Charge Nurse and supports Admissions Nurses asneeded. Attends all-employee and departmental meetings and in-servicetraining as scheduled or as directed.

Quality, Compliance, and RiskManagement

  • 40% Performs a nursing competency review and skill audit.

Prepares and distributes wound reports. Audits Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) to monitor varioustasks as determined by the Director of Nursing (DON). Creates risk event reports as needed and keeps DON and UnitManagers informed. Audits medical refrigerator, crash carts, and medical carts toensure they are clean and stocked. Maintains a state of readiness for survey by regulatorybodies. Checks documentation for accuracy to support RUG and Medicaidscores. Works with DON and/or Unit Manager to help reduce hospitalreadmissions. Reviews and responds to complaints and grievances fromresidents/patients and staff members regarding all areas ofresponsibility. Maintains the confidentiality of resident information andhonors the residents’ personal and property rights.

PeopleManagement and Development

  • 10% Supervises a designated area of the Nursing Department at alife plan community.

Fosters a positive work environment that attracts, retains, andmotivates employees. Interviews, selects, and orients new direct reports. Defines, establishes, and promotes performance expectations sodirect reports understand and demonstrate excellence through highquality and consistent performance. Evaluates job performance of direct reports in accordance withthe company policy and procedure and provides developmentalguidance to staff for improved performance and growth. Monitors accountability with organization requirementsprescribed by the Employee Handbook. Documents and engagesemployees who are routinely not observing these requirements in aneffort to achieve compliance. Works with Human Resources whencircumstances arise that necessitate further documentation andintervention. Participates in the development, planning, scheduling,conducting, and monitoring of in-service training programs,on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmentalstaff. Ensures that there is a reasonable and sufficient plan forstaffing should a direct report be absent or a direct reportingposition be vacant. Responds timely and thoughtfully to questions, requests, andwork product from departmental staff that has been provided forreview and approval.

QualificationsAll other duties asassigned.

Education Nursing degree from an accredited college, university orvocational school required. Current unencumbered license for the state of Ohio to practiceas a Registered Nurse (RN) required.

Experience One year experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long termcare facility, or other related health care facility required. One year experience working as a nurse in a hospital, long termcare facility, or other related health care facility required. Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,PowerPoint), and the internet required. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR)preferred.

Other Requirements Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the Englishlanguage.
