RESPONSIBILITIES

The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing andoverseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assignedshift toassure successful safe delivery of care. The Charge Nurse is a caregiver and often takes modifiedpatientcare assignment. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered byNurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through theWellStar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the WellStarProfessional Nursing Practice Model and evidence based practice andresearch. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported bythe WellStar Core Competencies. The role contributes to the establishment and maintenance ofpractices that ensure excellence in patient care, provides for theefficient use of resources, and undertakes leadership task such asstaff schedules, unit patient flow, subject matter expertise forclinical concerns, physician rounding, committee involvement,survey readiness, and other task as assigned by the manager, whichare basic to the department’s ability to function in a smooth andeffective manner. The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is a resource to other areasopportunity to learn about operational functionality andhospital/facility awareness. Assists in the growth and development of team members in theunit to help build department skills sets and to inspireexpertise. This leader brings with him or her ability to build rapportbetween nurses and physicians to continue service to the patientsand is a role model to others. It is expected that all RN Clinical Charge Nurses are licensed,knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by theGeorgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope ofPractice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the AmericanNurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected theindividual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies andprocedures while supporting service excellence goals. Possesses (advanced) clinical expertise and utilizes thisexpertise to support and promote the delivery of safe, ageappropriate and culturally aware patient care and serves as apartner in care. The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is a proactive member of aninterdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers whoensure that patients, families and significant others receiveindividualized high quality, safe patient care.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required MinimumEducation:

Graduate of an accredited/approved school of nursing as andAssociate Degree/Diploma Nurse. Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited schoolof nursing preferred.

Required Minimum Licensure/Certification:

Current/active license as a registered nurse in the State ofGeorgia. Must have a current BLS card from the American HeartAssociation on the first day of employment in position. National certification in area of specialty preferred.(Dependent on area of Service may require additional certificationsuch as

ACLS, PALS

).

Preferred Minimum Experience:

One year of nursing experience required, two yearspreferred. Experience as relief charge with clinical expertise preferred.

Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to read, write and speak English language. Optimize the use of technology to support clinical care andholds basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking anddecision-making skills. Works well with others in a collaborative, team-focused,patient centered way. Communicates effectively both orally and in written form withall levels of internal and external resources. Analytical skills necessary to solve technical, clinical andmanagerial challenges. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficient clinical and leadership experience to ensurecompetence and credibility to lead others.
