Job Summary:

Manages 24-hourdepartments providing patient care services. Ensures staff providehigh quality, accessible, cost effective care, and patient focusedservices to members across the continuum, which comply with local,state, and federal requirements. Develops and maintains clinicalstandards of care and practice; responsible for all resourcebudgeting, selection and development.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Manages the operations of 24-hour departments that may be atmultiple locations. Ensures Assistants and staff provide thehighest quality of care and are in compliance with the NursingPractice Act, The Joint Commission, federal, state, and localrequirements.
• Establishes, implements, and maintains patient careand service standards to meet members and internal clientsexpectations.
• Designs and evaluates processes to improve systemsand patient care results across the continuum of care.
• Developsand monitors budgets for the appropriate use of human and materialresources. Monitors financial performance and identifies andimplements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality ofcare/service.
• Determines the appropriate staff mix for departmentand develops processes to screen, interview, hire, train, andmaintain the competency of all department staff. Ensures on goingstaff development. Manages and resolves human resource, employeeand department safety, and risk management issues.
• Develops,implements, and monitors departmental policy and procedures whichsupport the organizations goals and business objectives and ensuresthey are met.
• Oversees and develops standards of care andstandards of practice, directs fiscal management, and qualityimprovement activities.
• Kaiser Permanente conducts compensationreviews of positions on a routine basis.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

• Minimum four (4) years of clinical nursing experiencerelated to clinical area of specialization as required bydepartment, including four (4) years of management, supervisory orleadership
• experience. Education
• Graduate of accredited schoolof nursing. Bachelors Degree in Nursing, or Masters Degree inNursing earned through a direct entry MSN program. License,Certification, Registration
• Registered Nurse License (California)required at hire

• Basic Life Support Additional Requirements:

• Leadership Experience will be permissible for Kaiser Permanenteinternal applicants only and is defined by the following criteria:demonstrated clinical nursing leadership as a Charge/Senior RN,participation on professional committees inclusive of UBTs,National Certification in Specialty, demonstrated completion of RNLeadership Development Program and/or demonstrated experientialexposure to Nursing Leadership.
• Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act,The Joint Commission, and other local, state, federal regulations
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
• ACLS orPALS certification may be required for positions in specificdepartment.
• National Certification preferred within 1 year ofhire
• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnershipenvironment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two (2) years ofmanagement experience preferred
• One (1) year of Magnet/sharedgovernance experience preferred
• One (1) year of managing in abargaining environment preferred
• Masters degree preferred.
