Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for thedaily operation and clinical supervision of the staff in theDepartment of Nursing. This person is clinically andadministratively responsible for the day-to-day oversight of allactivities within the Inpatient Service in collaboration with theDirector to ensure the delivery of quality patient care that isconsistent with regulatory agency standards and evidence-basedapproaches to clinical management.
Responsibilities:
- Establishesand maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, andother employees.
- Interacts professionally, courteously, andappropriately with patients, visitors, and other employees
- Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining and furthering apositive public perception of Brookdale Hospital and its employees
- Responsible for the implementation of hospital’s policies andprocedures, as well as regulatory agencies codes and regulations asthey pertain to the Department.
- Responsible for operations andmanagement of the unit in collaboration with the Director.
- Hasoverall responsibility for the operation of the unit with alldisciplines reporting to the Director.
- Coordinates all performanceimprovement activities so that it is truly an interdisciplinaryprocess. Utilizes appropriate benchmarks.
- Assembles and preparesdata relative to clinical activities as well as other statisticaland special reports required by the N.Y. State Office of MentalHealth (OMH), the NY Department of Health (KOH), the NY CityDepartment of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), and theAdministration for Children’s Services (Client) (As Applicable)
- Reviews and monitors admissions and discharges to ensureappropriate clinical management and discharge planning
- Responsible for gathering performance improvement data, gatheringinformation and meeting compliance standards for regulatory agencysurveys, including DOH, and JCAHO.
- Other essential functions asdeemed necessary such as budgeting, supply and inventorymaintenance.
- Responsible for operational leadership 24o basis
- Responsible for ensuring that all PCS Scope of service, Philosophyof Nursing and Ethical standards are met while delivering patientcare.
- Oversees patient care area to ensure clinical needs ∁etencies are met.
- Provides administrative coverage for theNursing Department as necessary.
- Demonstrates respect andprofessionalism in all interactions.
- Demonstrates a commitment tocontinuing professional growth and development.
- Participates inthe system of continuing education to increase administrative andclinical knowledge and skills.
- Maintains currency with state ofthe art and regulatory trends.
- Monitors and facilitates themeeting of requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and other regulators
- Innovative and implements best practices in care.
- Assumes otherresponsibilities as assigned by the Director and/ or Sr. VicePresident for Patient Care Services.
- Compliance with regulatoryrequirements.

Skills:
Required Skills &Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years as Registered Nurse required
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a leadership role required
- Critical thinking, math, and computer skills; Works as a teamplayer.
- Knowledge of quality improvement philosophy models,processes and tools and their use in health care integratedsettings.
- Knowledge of methods for CQI, and Root Cause Analysis
- Demonstrates competence in leadership, budgetary andadministrative skills.
- Excellent oral and communication skills
- Experience and demonstrated competency in applicable clinicalspecialty.
- Decision making and problem solving.
- Able to read,write, see and hear English.
- Ability to fully utilize BHMC’selectronic record systems, equipment and healthcare and billingsystems relevant to this position.

Physical Requirements:
Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolongedperiods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day
- Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry itemsweighing up to 35 pounds for routine performance of essentialfunctions.
- An individual in this position may be exposed to:
Adverse indoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens,Blood and body fluids, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks,etc.), communicable diseases, chemical hazards, radiation, andrepetitive motions.
- Full range of body motion, able to lift up to100 pounds, if necessary, to assist lifting and moving patients-Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand and eye coordination
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
- Frequentlysitting at desk working on computer.
- Ability to flex workinghours.
- On call.
