Job Summary:
The NurseManager is responsible for the daily operation and clinicalsupervision of the staff in the Department of Nursing. This personis clinically and administratively responsible for the day-to-dayoversight of all activities within the Inpatient Service incollaboration with the Director to ensure the delivery of qualitypatient care that is consistent with regulatory agency standardsand evidence-based approaches to clinical management.
EssentialDuties:
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships withpatients, visitors, and other employees.
- Interacts professionally,courteously, and appropriately with patients, visitors, and otheremployees.
- Behaves in a manner consistent with maintaining andfurthering a positive public perception of Brookdale Hospital andits employees.
- Responsible for the implementation of hospital’spolicies and procedures, as well as regulatory agencies codes andregulations as they pertain to the Department.
- Responsible foroperations and management of the unit in collaboration with theDirector.
- Has overall responsibility for the operation of the unitwith all disciplines reporting to the Director.
- Coordinates allperformance improvement activities so that it is truly aninterdisciplinary process.
- Utilizes appropriate benchmarks
- Assembles and prepares data relative to clinical activities aswell as other statistical and special reports required by the NYState Office of Mental Health (OMH), the NY Department of Health(KOH), the NY City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH),and the Administration for Children’s Services (Client).
- Reviewsand monitors admissions and discharges to ensure appropriateclinical management and discharge planning.
- Responsible forgathering performance improvement data, gathering information andmeeting compliance standards for regulatory agency surveys,including DOH and JCAHO.
- Other essential functions as deemednecessary such as budgeting, supply and inventory maintenance
- Responsible for operational leadership on a 24h basis
- Responsible for ensuring that all PCS Scope of service, Philosophyof Nursing and Ethical standards are met while delivering patientcare.
- Oversees patient care area to ensure clinical needs ∁etencies are met.
- Provides administrative coverage for theNursing Department as necessary.
- Participates in the system ofcontinuing education to increase administrative and clinicalknowledge and skills.
- Innovative and implements best practices incare.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the Directorand/ or Sr. Vice President for Patient Care Services.
- Compliancewith regulatory requirements.

Skills:
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum five (5)years as Registered Nurse required.
- Minimum of five (5) yrsclinical experience in psychiatry required.
- Minimum two (2) years’experience in a leadership role required.
- Critical thinking, math,and computer skills; works as a team player.
- Monitors andfacilitates the meeting of requirements of NYSDOH, JCAHO and otherregulators.
- Knowledge of quality improvement philosophy models,processes and tools and their use in health care integratedsettings.
- Maintains currency with state of the art and regulatorytrends.
- Knowledge of methods for CQI, and Root Cause Analysis
- Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions
- Demonstrates competence in leadership, budgetary andadministrative skills.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuingprofessional growth and development.
- Excellent oral andcommunication skills.
- Experience and demonstrated competency inapplicable clinical specialty.
- Decision making and problemsolving.
- Able to read, write, see and hear English.
- Ability tofully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment andhealthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.
