Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Works in coordination with nursing leadership in an assigned unit to ensure work is accomplished effectively. First Line support for staff, physician and other related providers for specific clinical issues. Generally a long term role, requiring extensive clinical and interpersonal skills. Collaborates with the manager on staffing needs and clinical and non clinical issues ( individual behaviors, employee relations, etc) to facilitate quality patient care. Liaison between patients, families, nursing staff, medical staff and administration. Support for the unit/department when the director is unavailable.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and/or experience: Current licensure to practice professional nursing in Tennessee. Competent in BLS and / or other specialized life support requirements designated by work area or completion upon hire.

B.A. / B.S.

Preferred. Minimum of five years nursing experience preferred. Multiple specialty nursing practice desirable.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, license practical nurse and nursing assistants. Appropriate application of nursing process. Knowledge of infection control procedures, safety precautions, techniques involved in administering routine medications and / or treatments to patients. Knowledge of hospital policies and resource material, knowledge and skill to carry out specific procedures. Basic computer knowledge

Abilities:

Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others. Ability to interact with people in a patient and non-judgmental way. Ability to demonstrate emotional maturity by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families. Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing care plan. Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment and follow-up. Ability to use computer and learn new software programs. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and / or paper documentation tools. Ability to think critically and problem solve while remaining focused and organized in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours and days to meet facility needs.
