POSITION SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapist – Journey Travelermust be able to travel nationwide for 13 week assignments. Thisposition provides flexibility to travel the country and work invarious settings. On assignment the Occupational Therapistorganizes and conducts occupational therapy programs for thelocation to facilitate rehabilitation. In addition, they directpatient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, andenhance performance. The Occupational Therapist facilitates thelearning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation andproductivity, in order to diminish or correctpathology.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. As necessary orapplicable, supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants,temporary licensees, students and support personnel in accordancewith state licensure requirements and professional standards.2.Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of rehabservices; adherence to an established plan of care, department andpatient(s)’ schedule, and timely documentation of services.3.Attends and contributes to patient care, staffing conferences andother related meetings.4. Makes referrals to other disciplines,agencies in order to address the comprehensive needs of thepatient.5. Consults with other members of the rehabilitation teamto select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent withthe needs and capabilities of each patient.6. Adapts program and/orplan of care according to the needs of individual patients.7.Promotes a safe environment and enforces the elimination of fireand safety hazards.8. Orders supplies and equipment as necessary.9.Cleans, maintains, identifies, and reports the need for repair ofequipment as necessary.10.

ensures thatpatients and families receive the highest quality of service in acaring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes theindividuals’ needs and rights.11. Screens, examines and evaluatespatients, including history, systems review, and application ofappropriate tests and measures, synthesis information andinterprets examination findings in order to establish a diagnosis,identify impairments, determine the predicted level of improvementand the time required to achieve it, identifyprecautions/contraindications and design and plan of care. Developsappropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with thepatient and caregivers, implements the occupational therapytreatment plan, and completes all related documentation and recordkeeping regarding these services. Services include but are notlimited to application of therapeutic techniques in areas such as:cognitive skills muscle strength coordination endurance mobilityperceptual abilities sensory awareness sitting and standingtolerance balance activities of daily living joint protection worksimplification orientation physical agent modalities12. Designs,fabricates, fits and/or applies adaptive devices, and trainspatients in the use of adaptive devices including orthotics andprosthetics.13. Selects appropriate activities suited to theindividual’s physical and mental capacity, intelligence level andinterest.14. Instructs patients in the skills and techniquesrequired for participation in functional activities and evaluatespatient progress, attitudes, and behavior as related torehabilitative potential.15. Performs routine reexamination asneeded/required to modify/progress plan of treatment.16. Performsother related duties as required.
Requirements:
SPECIFICEDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
1. They must have a Bachelor’sdegree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTEstandards.2. They must have initial registration from the NationalBoard for Certification in Occupational Therapy.3. The OccupationalTherapist-Journey Traveler must hold a valid and unencumberedoccupational therapy license as required in the state ofpractice.4. Must be available to travel to and temporarily residein locations outside of the therapist’s primary home.
