Videos Duties This position is loced in the Occupional Therapy Department of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilition Service (PM&RS) of the James A Haley VA Hospital.
Functions:
1. Employee possesses the knowledge and techniques to address highly complex cases in the management persistent or chronic pain. 2. Employee demonstres a full professional understanding of the theories of trement in the area of persistent or chronic pain (pain neuroscience) and their proper applicion. 3. This Clinical Specialist Occupional Therapist plans a trement program with measurable goals, based on evaluive findings and within the boundaries of the individual prescription. Employee modifies the program according to changing pient needs and termines trement program when all goals have been met. Independently administers standard trements in the area of persistent or chronic pain. 4. Incumbent demonstres a high degree of independence and professional judgment in planning and executing trement programs to meet complex trement objectives for pients in the Chronic Pain Rehabilition Programs both virtual and in person. 5. He/She provides accure written and/or verbal documention of pient stus and progress, trement program plans and pient response to trement. 6. Incumbent demonstres ability to apply effective and innovive motivional techniques to guide, coach, and assist pients with complex physical/psychosocial diagnoses toward self management and improved function. 7. Employee independently schedules pient s throughout the day allowing for adeque individual trement time as well as necessary time for conferences and any administrive tasks. 8. Employee consults with pients and their families through pient family educion, training, advising them in the nure of their medical condition and by providing home programs. 9. Employee provides professional oversight and consultion for staff therapists and monitors and evalues clinically approprie trement programs with gre autonomy. 10. Employee assumes responsibility for the independent operions of the clinic. Employee secures work area and equipment to provide a clean and safe therapeutic environment. 11. This Clinical Specialist Occupional Therapist may be designed as the Acting Supervisor or Manger of the Occupional Therapy Department when the need arises. 12. He/she mentors and assists other occupional therapy staff in the management of highly complex pient cases. 13. Incumbent recognizes the approprieness of trement based on indicions, precautions and contraindicions. He/she recognizes when to refer conditions outside the scope of occupional therapy practice to the approprie provider. 14. The incumbent possesses specialized clinical skills and is able to demonstre advanced clinical trement techniques in chronic pain management. 15. Incumbent considers the age/gender of the pient when assessing or providing care, as it reles to the ability to understand directions and provide objective self-assessments when implementing the overall trement plan.

(1) The individual must meet least one of the following requirements below: (a) Bachelor’s degree in occupional therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupional therapist;

The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th the Accredition Council for Occupional Therapy Educion (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy or (b) Bachelor’s degree in occupional therapy and two (2) full years of gradue educion in a reled field;
NOTE:
The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy. (c) Master’s Degree or higher in occupional therapy. Individuals must be a gradue of a degree program in occupional therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizions. This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educional institution). ACOTE is the only accredition agency recognized by the United Stes Department of Educion and the Council for Higher Educion Accredition. Grade Determinions :
Occupional Therapist (Clinical Specialist), GS-13 (1) Educion, Experience, and Licensure. Completion of one year of experience equivalent to least the [GS-12 grade] level and directly reled to the position being filled and one of the following. A minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice directly in the advanced practice area. This time must be within the past five years; Certificion in an area recognized by the AOTA; Completion of a fellowship/residency or advanced degree program in the advanced practice area; or An additional advanced degree in a reled field. KSAs:
Knowledge of contemporary occupional therapy across multiple areas of practice. Ability to provide clinical guidance in the advanced practice area to other OT practitioners. Knowledge of advanced specialized evaluion, interventions and services to independently develop trement stregies for area of specializion. Skill in developing protocols and procedures for intervention programs based on current occupional therapy theory, recent research, and practice. Ability to provide consultion to other health care practitioners and outside groups about occupional therapy scope of practice for area of specializion. Ability to implement, revise/upde evidence based occupional therapy services and programming in area of specializion. Assignment. Clinical OT specialists this grade level serve as subject mter experts and as consultants to occupional therapists and other medical center staff in evaluing and treing pients in the areas of occupional therapy th are beyond the general practice of occupional therapy. This individual must demonstre skills and techniques for a specific pient populion th has highly complex occupional and/or psychosocial impairments. Clinical OT specialist may initie, lead, and support research projects reled to clinical needs. This may include grant writing, guiding others in the process, and direct clinical participion in research.
