See more about this facility following this link. Summary Occupational Therapist 2 is professional work in administering occupational therapy programs in county hospitals and homes. Primary emphasis on coordinating programs in which several patients participate on an individual basis simultaneously, or developing separate projects suited to individual interests and requirements. Work is performed in accordance with recognized professional principles and techniques, and professional judgment is exercised in supervising therapists, participating in initial evaluation and re-evaluation of patients, and in treating patients requiring intensive care. Responsibilities Possesses and maintains and understanding of growth and development principles as they pertain to patients of all ages. Applies this knowledge appropriately in treatment delivery, program development, and instruction of other staff. Acts in a teaching capacity as a clinical expert to new and/or rotating staff therapists and interns. Coordinates the intern clinical education experience in the specialty area and provides direct supervision as necessary. Performs all tasks, including documentation, associated with patient treatment as specified in OT 1 job description. Coordinates in-service education addressing age and diagnostic-specific needs. Assists managers in managing the provision of acute care in the Neuro/HI and SCI areas and make recommendations to the area Manager. Assists Manager in the overall function of the department in keeping appropriate licensure and accreditation requirements, e.g.

TJC, HRS.

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the principles of growth and development pertaining to all ages of patients, and uses this knowledge to develop appropriate treatment skills in staff. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of groups in the specialty area. Directly supervises clinical staff in provision of patient care services including content of age specific treatment programs, therapeutic relationships, oral and constructive feedback. Evaluates referrals for appropriateness and assigns staff. Arranges for provision of patient services in the absence of staff from the area. Provides input on performance evaluations of staff in specialty area. Attends departmental and supervisory meetings. Identifies problems and issues affecting programs within the department and assists in planning, implementing and evaluating departmental goals and programs. Assists Managers in identifying ways to improve the quality of services provided by specialty area. Performs medical record audits, both hospital and departmental, to evaluate quality and timeliness of documentation. Serves as department resource person to O.T. staff and other health professionals in planning quality programs for all age groups. Represents the O.T. Department to administration and other departments as assigned by or during the absence of Managers. Acts as liaison between O.T. staff and other hospital departments. Represents department and JMH at professional and related meetings and conferences. Coordinates and prioritizes own time in relationship to overlapping demands of supervisory responsibilities, patient treatment, teaching and other assigned duties. Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency checklist. Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required. Performs additional advanced job duties as deemed by Managers. Experience Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience. Education Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and completion of an internship program are required. Credentials Valid Florida license as an Occupational Therapist required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
