Description Job Summary Responsible for the evaluation,re-evaluation, development, and implementation of a plan of care inaccordance with the preferred practice standards/clinicalguidelines for children with a variety of simple to complex upperextremity injuries resulting from trauma, disease, congenital oracquired deformities. Job Specific Duties Participates ininterdisciplinary/multidisciplinary meetings and other relatedmeetings that pertain to the care of specific patients. Maintainsand documents productivity standards set by leaders. Records dailypatient documentation, statistics, and charges accurately and in atimely manner as determined by meeting departmental standards.
Ensures documentation reflects evidence based practices.
Accountable to improve access to care for the patients we serve.
Conducts and interprets evaluations based on patient’s medicalconcerns, developmental age, diagnosis, and prognosis. Providesrecommendations based on findings. Maintains active and supportivecommunication with the patient, caregiver(s), and others regardingprogress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to thetherapeutic process. Develops a plan of care outlining area ofdeficit, activity restrictions, context and assistance needed, andensures functional, realistic, and measurable treatment goalsand/or status of ongoing goals. Recommends and provides treatmentsbased upon medical, clinical, functional, and observationalfindings. Initiates, documents, and prepares the patient/family fordischarge at the time of the evaluation based on maximum potentialor when benefit of therapy is reached. Follows TRAAC and initiates,documents & prepares the patient/family for discharge at the timeof the evaluation based on maximum potential and/or when benefit oftherapy is reached. Provides proof of at least 1 in-servicespecific to evidenced-based practices/literature review. Providesproof of at least 1 peer review (case study presentation)incorporating evidenced-based practices into their treatment plan.
Maintains ongoing CEUs to maintain professional licensure andclinical excellence. Qualifications Minimum Job RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy Florida ProfessionalOccupational Therapist license or Provisional OT license requiredAmerican Heart Association BLS – maintain active and in goodstanding throughout employment Finger printing background and GoodMoral Character Affidavit must be initiated within 15 days of hiredate and finalized within 90 days of hire date Knowledge, Skills,and Abilities Masters or Doctoral degree preferred. Experienceworking with orthopedic hand and upper extremity conditions.
Certified Hand Therapist preferred or currently working towardshand therapy certification. Membership with AOTA, FOTA, or ASHTpreferred. Serves as a clinical instructor for students assigned byCCCE after 2 years of clinical experience. Ability to appropriatelyinteract with patients, parents/guardians, and healthcareprofessionals in all work-related situations. Ability tocommunicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Able tomaintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordancewith HIPAA regulations. Analytical ability necessary to evaluatepatient condition, to interpret, analyze data, assess patientprogress, and determine appropriate follow-up. Current in practicestandards/clinical guidelines for evaluation, diagnosis, treatmentof a variety of simple to complex upper extremity injuries.
Knowledge of basic orthotic fabrication. Knowledge of childhooddevelopment. Knowledge of Kinesiology and biomechanics relative tothe shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand. Knowledge ofprinciples of tissue/wound healing. Knowledge of surface anatomy ofthe shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist and hand.
