The Certified Hand Specialist isresponsible for the evaluation, plan of care, treatment,re-evaluation, discharge, and appropriate communications of highquality occupational therapy and hand therapy services to patientsand customers. Evaluate and treat patients for whom occupationalhand therapy is medically necessary and document this clearly.

Develop objective patient goals and establish the type, frequencyand duration of occupational therapy/hand therapy in collaborationwith the referring physician. Participate in student clinicalclerkships and affiliation programs in agreement with the AOTA’sclinical education agreements from schools Attend and/orparticipate in facility meetings as directed by Center Manager (mayinclude utilization review, infection control, disasterpreparedness, etc.). Communicate pertinent patient information toreferring physicians, staff, employers, insurance carriers andrehabilitation specialists. Provide injured worker with guidelinesfor job modification and energy conservation in accordance withphysician.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a graduate of anAmerican Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) accredited schoolof Occupational Therapy. Specialty certification from Hand TherapyCertification Commission (HTCC) required in hand therapy. Nationalregistration and state licensure or registration where applicable.

Minimum of two years experience in application of custom splintingpre and post-op orthopedic is preferred. Minimum two years in adultrehabilitation; hand and splinting experience preferred. Basic LifeSupport (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American HeartAssociation required.
