Videos Duties Major Duties:
Clinical:

(1) Tres pients presenting complex problems using knowledge of occupional therapy principles and techniques consistent with current clinical standards based on OT theory and evidenced based practice. Knowledge is inclusive of physical, occupional, cognitive, and psychosocial functional deficits. (2) Consults with physicians and makes recommendions for plan of trement. (3) Evalues referred pients to determine current level of functioning (e.g. range of motion, pain, strength, movement mechanics, posture, coordinion, perception, coordinion, self-care, homemaking, work performance, orthotic needs) using standardized or specialized tests, interviews, observions, medical record review, and consultion with other professional staff. Provides informion to physicians for use in differential diagnosis. (4) Develops rehabilition objectives, in collaborion with the pient, in the form of a trement intervention plan th includes short and long term goals. Interventions to tain goals include but are not limited to: therapeutic exercise, muscle re-educion, perceptual motor integrion, fabricion and applicions of orthotics and devices for daily living, instruction in compensory techniques, and provision of pient/family educion. (5) Must use critical analysis, clinical reasoning, and creivity to independently solve complex problems reled to adapting and modifying assessments, trement plans, activities and procedures to meet the needs of the veteran. (6) Re-evalues the pient’s stus on a regular basis and adjusts the trement plan appropriely. (7) Documents in the medical record: results of the initial evaluion: the trement plan and goals; progress reports th include the trement provided, changes in the pient’s functional stus, and changes made to the trement plan: a discharge summary th includes goal achievement, recommendions for home program, and pient/family educion. (8) Attends interdisciplinary team meetings; participes with physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other disciplines in developing the pient care plan: advises the interdisciplinary team of trement outcomes, current stus of the pient, and progress toward goals. (9) When indiced, evalues the pient’s living environment through home s or consultion with pient, family, significant others or home health professionals to assist in solving problems associed with community re­entry. (10) Procures, fabrices, adjusts, adapts, and modifies orthoses, splints, and adaptive equipment for activities of daily living (inclusive of durable medical equipment). (11) Applies all health and safety regulions to minimize and mitige risks in the provision of pient care and environmental maintenance. (12) Privileged to do consultion and procedural oversight via TeleHealth Educion (1) Provides oriention/training of medical staff to the occupional therapy program. (2) Assists in the oriention and training of new staff occupional therapists. (3) Assists in the training of occupional therapy students, providing feedback about students’ progress and performance. (4) Keeps current of principles and techniques in the occupional therapy assessment and trement of occupional, cognitive, and psychological functional deficits through professional literure, in-service programs, and continuing educion. (5) Provides in-service and pient educion programs as indiced. Administrive (1) Participes in developing guidelines/protocols in trement of various diagnoses and in developing new pient care programs and evaluion of existing programs. (2) Maintains pient records and other da required by the section, service and medical center. (3) Submits requests for expendable supplies, additional equipment, educional merial, and maintenance needs to the section supervisor. (4) May be requested to serve on a service level committee or to represent PM&R Service on a medical center committee.

The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th the Accredition Council for Occupional Therapy Educion (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy OR (b) Bachelor’s degree in occupional therapy and two (2) full years of gradue educion in a reled field;

NOTE:

The baccalauree degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision th ACOTE would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupional therapy. OR (c) Master’s Degree or higher in occupional therapy.(2) Individuals must be a gradue of a degree program in occupional therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizions. This is inclusive of an internship supervised fieldwork experience required by the educional institution. ACOTE is the only accredition agency recognized by the United Stes Department of Educion and the Council for Higher Educion Accredition. Foreign Gradues. Gradues] of foreign occupional therapy programs meet the requirements of subparagraph 3b (2) if they have a current, full, active and unrestricted license referred to in subparagraph 3e of this appendix. Certificion. Candides must possess a current NBCOT certificion as an OT. Ste Licensure . Candides must possess a full, current, and unrestricted ste license to practice occupional therapy in a ste, territory or Commonwealth of the United Stes (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. Loss of Credential.
