Supervises:

Students receiving occupational therapy services as part of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or other service plan

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist should possess deep knowledge of developmental, physical, sensory, and motor skills impacting student learning. Essential qualities include a proactive and reflective approach to practice, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to continuous professional growth. Therapists should embrace MGSD’s vision of “every child, every day,” and work in partnership with families, teachers, and other staff to support student success. Familiarity with assistive technology, differentiated strategies, and individualized supports to meet student needs is expected. MGSD values innovation, flexibility, and the use of digital tools to enhance student access and engagement in the educational setting.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program; must hold current licensure through the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT); Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT); experience in school-based occupational therapy, preferred.

Purpose of Position:

To support students in accessing their educational environment through occupational therapy services that promote the development of fine motor, sensory processing, self-help, and functional skills necessary for school success.
To collaborate with teachers, families, and school staff to integrate occupational therapy strategies into daily routines and classroom activities.
To provide evaluation, intervention, and consultation services in alignment with IEPs, 504 plans, and other relevant programs.
To contribute to the educational team in developing strategies that allow all students to learn, grow, and thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Responsibilities, Duties, & Expectations:

Conducts occupational therapy screenings, assessments, and evaluations in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
Develops and implements therapy plans and goals aligned with students’ IEPs or 504 plans.
Provides direct therapy and consultative services to support student participation in school-related tasks.
Collaborates with educational teams to integrate therapy strategies into classroom instruction and daily routines.
Maintains accurate documentation, progress reports, service logs, and records as required by law and district policy.
Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, and student support teams.
Recommends and helps implement assistive technology and adaptive equipment to support student access and independence.
Provides training and guidance to school staff and parents on strategies to enhance student function and participation.
Supports transitions for students between grade levels, school environments, or to post-secondary life.
Adheres to all confidentiality guidelines and ethical standards related to student care.
Engages in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices and changes in the field.
Promotes a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.
Performs other related duties as assigned by school administration or district leadership.

Physical Requirements:

The following list includes the physical requirements of the position: Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Must be able to perform basic life operational functions of standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions
Must be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research
