Summary:

This is an acute care position with weekend andholiday requirements.

This is highly skilled, rehabilitative workwith patients whose abilities to cope with the daily tasks ofliving are impaired by developmental deficiencies, aging, medicalconcerns, or psychological and social disabilities. Incumbentsprovide evidence-based occupational therapy evaluation,consultation and skilled treatment for patients. They documentactivities, and instruct patients, family, and students. Work isperformed under the general supervision of an OccupationalTherapist II or Occupational Therapist Supervisor. Clinician isexpected to have involvement in the areas of continuing education,departmental and community activities, outreach education and roleof preceptor to students.

Responsibilities:

1. Diagnostic Testing -Administers basic & complex diagnostic tests and evaluations in thearea of Occupational Therapy for the treatment of functionaldeficits and related impairments.2. Education – Teach & supervisegraduate Occupational Therapy students and/or clinicalfellows/residents. Develops or contributes to innovative programsto enhance patient care. Serves as resource consultant to otherclinicians in respective specialty area.3. Evaluation of Care -Analyzes results of diagnostic and or therapeutic testing toestablish patient goals and or modify subsequent treatmentprograms. Identifies expected patient outcomes. Communicatesrelevant information to promote continuity of care.4.Implementation– Selects and applies current and advancedtechniques to provide quality and efficient rehabilitativeservices. Provides habilitation/rehabilitation and maintenance ofpersons with related impairments. Organizes and prioritizes careaccording to patient/family needs.5. Outreach/CommunityInvolvement-Serves as resource to North Carolina governmentdepartments and statewide health professionals in specialty areas.

Presents at local (university/hospital) or state level,participates in community health screening and events. Participatesin the development of new clinical programs to meet emerging needsin conjunction with the clinical specialist and/or departmentdirector.6. Participation – Contributes to quality of clinicalservices through attendance and participation in departmentalmeetings and in-services.7. Quality-Contributes to quality ofclinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable recordsof patient procedures & progress. Participates in qualityimprovement initiatives with the clinical specialist and otherhealthcare professionals. Participates in continuous qualityimprovement efforts in conjunction with the departmentdirector.
