JobSummaryPlans and implements specific treatment programs forindividual patients according to principles and practices ofoccupational therapy. Participates in operational and clinicalfunctions for the department, hospital and corporation. Providesdirection and assistance to Occupational Therapists, OccupationalTherapist Assistants, Occupational Therapy Students, and TherapyAides in the area of patient care. Complies with laws andregulations of appropriate state and federal agencies and JointCommission guidelines. An advanced level of clinical andinterpersonal skills is required. Be the difference Performs appropriate initial occupational therapy evaluationsand re-evaluations and designs an occupational therapy plan ofcare Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnoses/conditions seen inoccupational therapy Selects, performs, and interprets the results of OTexaminations of neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, andpulmonary systems Performs and interprets standardized evaluations appropriatefor the patient Identifies actual or potential problems that would impact theOT treatment plan as well as the overall patient plan of care Establishes specific treatment goals based on the results ofthe initial assessment Designs the treatment plan appropriate for the patient’s age,educational level, and cultural background Designs a plan of intervention that is coordinated andintegrated with other services. Revises the treatment plan as indicated Implements and manages a specific and comprehensive treatmentplan, and participates in patient discharge planning Demonstrates working knowledge of various Occupational Therapytechniques with flexibility and creativity in the implementation ofthese therapy techniques Interacts regularly with others involved in the patient’s careto incorporate an interdisciplinary treatment approach forcoordinated quality care Demonstrates awareness and use of proper safety measuresregarding the patients, others in the treatment area and self Reassesses patient status in response to treatments and goalachievement, redefines problems and modifies goals and treatmentsas indicated Provides information regarding discharge and follow-up servicesas indicated which may include a referral to other communityresources Participates in patient and family education process – Provides education and training to patients, families, andcaregivers regarding diagnoses, progress, and long-term functionaloutcomes Completes the Plan of Care and Patient/Family EducationDocumentation Teaches, counsels, and communicates with thepatient/family/caregiver educational information related to thepatient’s diagnosis/condition Provides educational material to patients/families asindicated Complies with departmental policies for documentation Documentation is in compliance with the chart review auditcomponents. Documents all aspects of assessment, planning, treatment, anddischarge in the medical record in a legible and timelymanner. Goals are appropriate and measurable within a specified timeframe. Treatment notes are clear, succinct, and contain informationregarding treatment progression. Appropriate abbreviations and medical terminology areutilized Department and team responsibilities Attends staff meetings, team meetings, and mandatoryin-services as scheduled. Initiates and manages assignments in a timely and thoroughmanner. Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment andsupplies. Completes charge/productivity documentation and enters chargesin an accurate and timely manner. Demonstrates willingness to assist and is respectful of therights of other team members.
