Job Description

Summary The mission of the Occupational Therapy program is to make quality graduate-level education accessible to working adult students from diverse cultural and experiential backgrounds. Barry University’s goal is to prepare graduates who value occupational therapy as the means and end goal of client centered practice; practice competently through the use of theory, technology and evidence-based principles in both traditional and innovative community settings; model the ethical principles and professional behaviors espoused by the university and the profession; and assume leadership roles for responsive and effective service delivery in their facilities and communities. The primary role of the AFWC is to implement and oversee the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) C Standards. Additional responsibilities of the AFWC include providing input to curricular design & redesign, policy development & updates, overall administration capabilities, and engaging in teaching & scholarship. This is a faculty position that is responsible for coordinating students’ fieldwork placements and monitoring progress. According to the accreditation body, the AFWC is designated as Core Faculty (A.2.4), which means “Faculty members employed in the occupational therapy educational program whose job responsibilities, at a minimum, include curriculum design, teaching, and student advisement. (ACOTE, 2018). The successful candidate is passionate about fieldwork education with a spirit for innovation and creative problem-solving. Rank and Compensation are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured core faculty member appointment holding the rank of assistant or Associate professor of occupational therapy. Essential Functions The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to: 1.

Fieldwork Coordination:

Establish level I and level II FW contracts with clinical sites, ensuring the number of FW sites is adequate and in compliance with

accreditation standards Evaluate and coordinate placements for students’ level I and level II fieldwork (FW) experiences. Monitor the progress of students during experiences Advise students on matters of fieldwork Work and communicate effectively with clinical instructors, fieldwork coordinators, and the program director Maintain up-to-date students’ records, forms, datasheets, affiliation agreements, and fieldwork contracts. Verify students’ compliance with fieldwork participation requirements (i.e. background checks, medical information, insurance) Develop alternative student clinical experiences as needed (i.e. telehealth) Serve as academic fieldwork supervisor for Level I and nontraditional Level II FW students as needed when there is no OT onsite Provide annual training to FW educators on topics dealing with the supervision of diverse students. Collect and interpret data for fieldwork program evaluation and curriculum development 2.

Teaching:

Teaching courses within the curriculum Advise students and monitor students’ learning outcomes Participate in professional development. Participate in scholarship activities Participate in service activities 3.

Accreditation and Administrative Support:

Ensure proper documentation and placements comply with ACOTE accreditation standards for fieldwork Assist with ACOTE document preparation and reports Ensure the number of FW sites is adequate and in compliance with

accreditation standards Document and complete FW reports for HRSA and/or other grants as needed Lead program FW Committee meeting, documentation of minutes, and assessment of students’ Professional Behaviors rating. 4.

Professional Service:

Represent the program at professional meetings such as FLOTEC Attend professional association meetings Attend annual institution and CHW commencement events Present at Program events such as: Orientation, Symposium, Anointing of Hands ceremony Present at the CHW Summer Program Present at min 1 professional development session for to program faculty Serve on the Program’s Admission committee as a member with duties including screening and interviewing of prospects, among others Serve on the Program Curriculum Committee as a member. 5.

Advising:

Maintain adequate office hours for advising and consultation with students Communicate effectively with FWE and other stakeholders. 6.

Other Duties:

Attend the Program Research Symposium and serve as a student project rater. Serve as Graduate Project Mentor as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

An active Occupational Therapist license with a minimum of a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy is required. A Doctoral degree from a USDE-accredited program is preferred. A minimum of three years of experience in clinical practice, academic teaching, and fieldwork education is required. Experience in the development and management of fieldwork sites is preferred. Must have a good understanding of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) standards. Strong administrative and organizational skills. The candidate must have effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
