Caseload is mainly during the afternoon. As a pediatric certified occupational therapy assistant or pediatric COTA, your job is to provide occupational therapy services to children. In this role, you assist patients with special needs, help them develop the correct behavior and motor skills, and promote cognitive development. As an assistant, your job is to work directly under an occupational therapist (OT) who makes the primary decisions about care, but you may work independently on some tasks. Pediatric COTAs often travel to visit patients in hospitals, schools, and home settings, so a driver’s license and reliable transportation are essential to your success in this field.
