Full Job Description Position Description:
We are hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to join our retina practice. This position is well-suited for individuals interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, including those planning to apply to medical, PA or nursing school, or seeking long-term growth in the ophthalmic field. Technicians will receive hands-on experience in clinical care, diagnostic imaging, and patient interaction. Ample on-the-job training will be provided. This is a meaningful role for someone looking to build a strong foundation in clinical medicine.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct preliminary patient assessments including medical history documentation and chief compliant identification
- Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fundus photography
- Administer dilating eye drops and prepare patients to see physician
- Assist retina specialist during examinations and procedures including intravitreal injections or in-office surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared and functioning properly
- Prepare surgical paperwork with patients obtaining all pertinent medical information
- Educate patients about eye health, and post-operative care as directed by the physician
- Ensure patient records are accurately updated and confidentially maintained in EHR system
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic environment in compliance with health regulations Requirements
- Medical experience preferred, but willing to train
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on patient interaction
- Proficiency in using a computer and electronic health record systems
