PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED, RETINA A PLUS
Position can be at multiple locations. We will conduct an in-person skills test, if you pass the first interview. All positions are encouraged and expected to learn other departments and skills. As a result, an immediate $1.00 raise is administered for each new department that is mastered, plus the additional incentives we offer for various tasks and accomplishments. These average out to an additional $300-$500 a month. Tampa Eye Clinic – 3000 W Dr. MLK Jr Blvd Tampa, FL 33607 We are a multi-specialty Ophthalmology practice in the beautiful Tampa Bay area, looking for team players with positive energy and experience in general Ophthalmology. Enthusiasm and compassion are a must. We will train the right person, but previous experience is desired.
- Compensation for Ophthalmic Technician with prior experience : $20, dependent on skills assessment and experience levels
QUALIFICATIONS
- HS. Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Minimum 1 Year of Experience in Ophthalmology field
- Manual Refraction Experience
- EHR a plus, but not required
- Open to both Full Time and Part-Time hours. If Part-Time, must be available to work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8-5pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Pachymetry
- Ability to manually refract
- Ability to applanate for checking eye pressure
- Topography
- Wave front analysis
- (Optional) LASIK surgery assistance Initiates and performs documentation of the patient’s chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history and review of systems and pertinent ocular findings, accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
Performs testing to include visual acuity measurement, lensometry, testing pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, confrontation visual field testing and other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist. Performs refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription. Visual Field testing, OCT, Clarus/Optos testing, Photo fundus imaging, IOL Master, Topography Performs various specialty testing ordered by physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), color vision testing, and other tests as directed. Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including prepping patients for sterile procedures. Educates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician. Handles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely. Administers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician. Opens and closes exam lanes ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected, battery-powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, and lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Basic understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications, and equipment. Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance. Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients. Requires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks. Must maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email. We are currently looking for several Ophthalmic Technicians for a multi subspecialty, very busy practice. We have awesome benefits, competitive compensation and are willing to train. Incentives:
Performance-based, all calculated each month by the CEO, Aaron Bowman. Front Desk earns $5 for every appt booked and kept, $10 for Saturday appts. Optical and Surgical is 2% of sales. Clinical is an additional $0.50 per hour when working up an average of 2.5 patients per hour, or $1.00 per hour when working up an average of 3 patients per hour.
