Requirements:
The Optical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Collecting and recording patient medical history Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations. Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) Measuring pupil size and reactivity Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement) Performing dry eye testing Participating in light cleaning of the facility Maintaining a sanitized environment Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts. Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients Facilitating Digital Optometric appointments (training provided)
Position/Type/ Expected Hours of Work:
Saturday hours are generally 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Travel:
Travel between locations may be required to support training and/or business needs. Employees are reimbursed the standard IRS mileage rate for travel.
Qualifications:
Minimum of one year assisting in an Optical practice or as an Optometrist Assistant Ophthalmic experience a plus
Skills and Abilities:
Superior interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to effectively multi-task Attentive to detail and accuracy.
