Position Summary:
Plans, supervises, and oversees the day-to-day activities of the Ophthalmology Technicians. Organizes and participates in staff recruitment, training, and scheduling; counsels and evaluates staff. Prepares and delegates work schedules and assignments. Oversees use and maintenance of equipment, physical space, and supply inventory and monitors related expenses.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Performs specialized diagnostic ophthalmic testing, including skilled eye exams and administration of eye drops, under clinician supervision. + Trains and mentors staff, residents, and fellows on equipment use and testing techniques; supports skill development of less experienced personnel. + Supervises ophthalmology technicians, handling hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions in coordination with leadership. + Manages daily operations, including staff scheduling, workload prioritization, and maintaining communication with physicians to ensure efficient patient flow. + Oversees equipment and supply inventory, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and coordinating capital equipment planning. + Ensures regulatory compliance, conducting safety audits and promoting awareness of patient safety goals and hospital policies among staff.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
+ High School Diploma/GED required + Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Experience:
+ 5 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or equivalent required + Experience in pediatric ophthalmology preferred
Licensure/ Certifications:
+ Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required + Current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
