ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Greet and room patients. Obtain and document past medical and surgical histories, history of present illness (HPI). Reviews patients chart prior to physician exam to anticipate procedures and supplies or equipment that may be needed. Perform preliminary ophthalmic work-up including chief complaint, Visual Assessment, Confrontational Visual Field Testing, Pupil Assessment, Tonometry, Keratometry, Ocular Motility Testing, Glare Testing, Refractometry, Pachymetry, Lensometry, Slit Lamp Examination, Ishihara (Color) Plate Testing, Stereo Testing, Amsler Grid, administers ophthalmic drops and ointments. Develops positive and effective relationships with patients and their families. Performs administrative tasks which include responding to inquiries in messaging and voice mail systems. Assists with appointments and telephone screening activities. Answers STAT phone, takes messages and relays to appropriate individuals. Under direction of physician, may call pharmacy with prescription refills and records prescriptions in patients chart. Files test results, forms, and letters into medical records. Performs stocking and maintenance functions. Maintains physical environment of workup and exam rooms. Cleans and stocks rooms daily and maintains appropriate supplies. Predictable, reliable and prompt attendance.

Education and Experience:

One to three years’ experience as an ophthalmic or optometric assistant and a high school diploma or equivalent required. Salary commensurate with experience.
