POSITION SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Technician generates important preliminary information to be used by the optometrist; reviews patient status, performs medical tests, and assists in patient education. While maintaining the office workflow and assuring that the patients’ needs are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing that is required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint, and or requested by the doctor. Is able to take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record in the charting system. Is able to perform and accurately record visual acuity, lensometry, refractometry, applanation, tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, and confrontation visual fields. Administer additional diagnostic tests when required. Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records or hand-writes in paper chart, while maintaining patient flow. Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up, and cleans up from any and all procedures. Assists with patient education. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day. Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
