We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator / Ophthalmic Technician to join our dedicated staff.

Position Summary:

This hybrid role is ideal for someone who thrives in both administrative and clinical settings. You’ll coordinate medical referrals efficiently while also supporting physicians with essential ophthalmic and diagnostic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Referral Coordination:

Manage incoming and outgoing medical referrals, ensuring timely follow-through on work from home days. Coordinate with referring providers, specialists, and insurance carriers. Obtain and track prior authorizations and referral documentation. Maintain accurate records in the EMR and follow up with patients and providers as needed. Serve as the main point of contact for referral-related inquiries.

Ophthalmic Technician Duties:

Record comprehensive patient histories and chief complaints. Perform basic diagnostic testing including visual acuity, tonometry, and pupil dilation. Assist the physician with in-office procedures and minor surgeries as needed. Conduct imaging such as OCT, external photography, and visual fields (training provided if necessary). Maintain clean and fully stocked exam rooms and ensure proper sterilization of instruments. Document patient visits accurately in our EMR system (familiarity with [insert EMR name] preferred).

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or a medical office strongly preferred. Experience handling medical referrals and insurance authorizations is a plus. COA/COT certification is a plus, but not required. Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
