Responsible for ophthalmic photography, diagnostic services, and electrophysiology for the Division of Ophthalmology. What you will do
Performs ophthalmic testing, imaging, and electrophysiology for the Division of Ophthalmology outpatient clinics, including but not limited to fundus photography, visual fields, anterior segment fluorescein angiography, OCT, ERG/VEP, and ultrasonography.
Participates in weekly Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) rounds in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for 6-8 hours/week
Acquires retinal images of premature infants who are being evaluated for ROP
Collects and records pertinent clinical data
Responsible for fundus photography, visual fields, OCTs, and ERGs performed on patients in the sedation unit and/or operating rooms.
Communicates with physicians in regards to test results and protocols.
Maintain and contribute to efficient patient flow in the practice.
Maintains all department photographic, diagnostic, and related equipment. Makes minor repairs and modifications to such equipment, adapting it to various ophthalmic procedures.
Assists in maintaining inventory of all necessary supplies, equipment and services with necessary follow-up. Ensures equipment is cleaned and disinfected in accordance with policy and standards.
Ensures acquired images are appropriately stored in patients’ electronic health records.
Develops and maintains a regular image backup protocols. Assists with image storage related concerns, has sufficient understanding to manage duplicates, contribute to the database, and report any concerns with image capture.
Performs all tasks in a safe manner in compliance with patient safety policies and applicable regulations.
Works collegially as part of a larger clinical care team.
Participates in divisional research requiring imaging studies. Works with Director of Research as clinic research liaison.
Attends conferences, workshops and lectures. Reviews current literature and updates on the latest developments techniques for testing.
Knowledgeable and proficient in diagnostic testing, including but not limited to: Visual Fields, Ultrasound, OCT, A and B-scan, ERG/VEP.
Trains others in the division’s diagnostic imaging protocols as well as the proper use and maintenance of diagnostic equipment. Education Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED
- Required Experience Qualifications
At least five (5) years experience in pediatric ophthalmic imaging/photography - Required
At least ten (10) years experience in pediatric ophthalmic imaging - Preferred Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of eye terminology, pathology, anatomy and physiology of the eye.
Proficient in all areas of ophthalmic photography (including fundus, Retcam, slit lamp, external, video, and fluorescein angiography).
Advanced skills in ophthalmic diagnostic testing including OCT, Retcam, ultrasound and ERG required.
Ability to analyze and interpret diagnostic testing information.
Must be able to work and learn independently, multitask, and demonstrate strong problem solving abilities.
Outstanding communication and leadership skills to support and maintain professional relationships within and outside the division. Licenses and Certifications

$67,500.00
- $86,060.00 Annually Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you’re working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
